Post subject:  Obtaining medical cards

Hi, we are of working age and are applying for our medical cards.
Is it possible for someone to outline what the card entitles you too please?

If we have to have medical work done privately before the cards are issued, is it possible to claim all/part of the fee back at all?

Thanks

It depends totally on how much you're earning. I can't remember the figures, but the lowest one, you pay €2 to see the doctor at the general hospital, but all of the prescription are then free from the pharmacy at the hospital.
There's a middle figure, where you pay more and a total figure where it's not and you need medical insurance etc.

If you go private while waiting, I'm would guess probably not, as private is still private You could probably go to the general hospital, with E111 card and passport and explain the situation and get it free or the usual rate there?
