Hallo. Which would be the best area in the Paphos region to live for a sufferer of osteoarthritis? Thanks

I have suffered from osteoarthritis for many years

We live in lower Peyia ...so don,t experience the cold winters of the higher places

The dry , warm climate of Cyprus has helped my condition a lot

We also invested in a log burner with dry heat for the winter months

Low lying areas are warmer and drier than the higher ones!

Sure others will be along soon with their advice

From what I can gather, the higher places would be good in summer which I found insufferably hot and humid in the summer in coastal Paphos, but less good in winter. Almost need two abodes!

Thanks for your feedback. So a pied-a-terre in Paphos town for the winter could be a solution.

Temperature along the coast of Paphos (Kato Paphos) tend to be 4 or 5 degrees C higher than in the hill areas of Paphos during the hot summer times (making it more bearable to be on a hill).
But during the winter you will need more heating the higher you are.
It's 'swings & roundabouts' ... and it's preferable to have your own transport, as the public transport is not always within easy reach, in either area.
The centre of the town itself (Pano Paphos) is a 'half-way house'.

The bus service to Tala seems adequate. Not sure about Tsada but I'll check it now.
If Lazaris Mill Retirement Village in Tsada area materialises, then that is where I could want to be...

If you are looking at Tala your best option would probably be the top end of the village where the bus service is not so good.

I have been looking at retirement homes here and have also been speaking with various people, including forces support people as I have a military connection and everyone I have spoken with strongly suggests that non Cypriots think very long and hard before moving to a retirement home here as they don't work the same way as those in the UK.

Tsada is quite steep and is at an altitude where it is going to be cold in winter and certainly gets snow there.

Transport is not ideal and you are quite some distance from a properly equipped hospital and a big supermarket. The idea of a retirement village is interesting, but I am not convinced about the location.

The retirement village may well be a long time a coming (?if at all).

So I think I'll have a rethink and maybe keep to original idea of concentrating on Kato Paphos/Coral Bay area and simply get away in the summer, even if only to Troodos. I could not stand the extreme humidity in July and August in lower Paphos but can't bear traffic fumes either.

Further to consideration of Lazaris Mill retirement village, Tsada. According to details posted on Facebook it will have a medical centre with doctor, nurse, an ambulance and its own transport.

A winter let in coastal Cyprus would overcome the issue of cold/snow in winter in Tsada. It was the heat coupled with high humidity of coastal areas which I found difficult to cope with at the height of summer..

If it works for you then I wish you well, but I would want to have quicker, reliable access to A&E as you never know when you might need it.

It (the retirement village) would work for me if the project really does become a reality.
I would take a taxi to A&E if necessary (distance 8.4km). Fully concur, one never knows ...

Failing Tsada, Tala (Avli) - with better and acceptable-to-me bus service - could be a valid alternative.

I'll check it all out on return to Cyprus next year.
