Looking for an empty shop unit, approx 75 sq m in size. All on the ground floor preferably. Busy or good secondary location. Paphos area. Realistic rent. Can anyone help me please? Clive Bwye.

Clive. No way to tell if you are in Cyprus or not. In my opinion the best thing to do is to look around the different areas of Paphos. When you have chosen the best area have a look at the shops for rent..... There will usually be some, with a notice in the window. Ring the person up and Barter like mad. It is a renters market here.

A bit more info might help ..
do want it in the tourist area ?
Is the location not an issue ?
does it need to have a food licence ?
There are loads of shops out there at present to rent..
I would not think that it is the best time to be going into retail,
unless you have something very, very special ..

Hi everyone. Thanks for your input. Does not have to be in a tourist area. It is a niche idea, bit sort of pile it high and retail cheaply, but on reasonable quality goods.
You are right that retail is not a great area at the moment, but we have not suffered as bad as most with our shop in the UK. So far we have felt that an opening is possible in Cyprus. Unfortunately we are in our busy time now, so I cant come over again until January, but I am trying to gain a general idea of rents, whatever business rates/ service charges etc are applied, so I have this information to hand before January. This will save valuable time, and help us decide whether it is a viable proposition or we need to look at alternative ideas. Cheers.

Theres loads of large units about, all at reasonable rates. There is already growing competition in the UK pile it high food shops.

The novelty has to a certain degree worn off so they are concentrating on items which are real value for money and are generally cheper than the Local providers. We saw a UK shop with baked beans, soups and sauces all of which were cheaper in Carrefour. So it pays to shop around.

Landlords can vary in their attitudes to tenants, ensure your agreement is water tight, ensure you have the right permits and insurances, and make sure every single solitary item is also written in Greek, right down to individual packs of chewing gum and Tunnocks wafers..
I saw a nice unit just along from the new Casino in KAto Paphos today, however parking was poor so no use for Pile em high.
