Disgraceful that Shola Ameobi hasn't even been considered - more goals scored in European football than Mr Bent will ever manage.

Distinct lack of people willing to commit themselves to any predictions on here mind - come on folks, money where your mouth is!

- Who'll win?
- Top scorer?
- Surprise package?

I haven't studied the ins and outs like who plays who in the later rounds, but I'll go with Spain to win.
Top scorer.....Van Persie.
Surprise team......USA.

According to SSN Rio Ferdinand rushed to hospital with knee injury. Appears Emile Heskey injured him !!!!!!!
Gary
PS. Martin, am hearing Drogba has fractured his arm ! Still fancy Ivory Coast ?

Both those injury are record on the BBC now. On the plus side Barry is looking better.

Don't think Rio is too big as miss, he's been rubbish lately anyway. Losing Drogba is massive for the Ivory Coast though - definitely might need to re-think my underdog prediction!

Portugal to make semis
Don't forget you heard it here first!

I can't understand the above two posters getting all excited, they don't even have a team in the competition.
The last time I looked the geordie nation weren't playing.

Should have raided his fridge after the BBQ the other night - he had enough in there to sink a ship!

You joining us in Peyia for the England game tomorrow?

I've managed to maintain my record of watching every game so far - it's a dirty job, but someone has to do it! :cheers

New Zealand versus Slovakia was definitely the highlight to date. :doh

The standard of footy has been dire and I don't care what anyone says, the ball has a lot to answer for.

Hopefully, we'll see a bit more excitement today as we are on to 2nd lot of games.

Unfortunately, missing a lot of earlier matches, due work :-(

This match and result seemed interesting to me. Korea 8 - 0 Brazil. I had to read twice.

Genuine paper report.

I have to agree with earlier comments the standard to date has been poor to say the least. The only team to show any real threat has been the Germans (don't like them cos they bombed the Sugar Factory in Newcastle) and maybe some signs from Brazil to give me hope. Friday is key to England and I think we will come through the group stage Ok despite the first result.

By the way I have the Netherlands in the Frog and Toad draw and Spain in the Village Inn Kissonerga draw!

Martin, also Jo has emptied his fridge as I was there last Sunday!!!!

Even watching Sunderland !!!!! I have never seen so many shots go over the bar or wide of the mark and have never seen so many crosses overhit.
Now seems the Germans have had the ball to practice with for months.

Fantastic defensive performance by the Swiss - will be great if Spain don't make it out the group, Chile will certainly be a very tricky game for them, they looked very impressive yesterday.

Apparently the German, USA and Argentinian leagues have been using it since February - we couldn't in England as it's an Adidas ball and the Prem has a sponsorship deal with Nike.

Those crafty Jormans! :huff

Well I am so happy that Spain won tonight. I didn't see them winning after the way Germany have been performing.. The German press have been quick to praise their coach for out witting Capello and Maradona so what happened tonight.
Will they accept Del Bosque outwitted him ?
I doubt it.
The fact is Spain deserved to win and were the better team by far.I predicted some time back that Spain would win this World Cup. Look back at the posts on here for proof.
I know they have blown hot and cold but they were good tonight. If they play like that on Sunday they will win.
Even if they don't win, I will be happy.
You see my two fave European teams, after England are Spain( where I've holidayed 15 times) and Holland. I have quite a few Dutch friends and for such a small country they always over achieve.. Take note Scotland.
On top of that they respect the English, we respect them( ie we always have Dutch men on the footy panels), we go there regularly for weekends and above all they can speak English better than the Oirish, Welsh or our poor Northerly neighbours.
No Lose situation,
Gary

:greetings Welcome back Gary - been dead in here while you were away!

Bit disappointed in last night's game, thought if the Germans had a proper go earlier it could have been a cracker, the Spanish defence has shown they can struggle under pressure.

Should be a decent final - what odds another deflected goal by Sneijder?

Been a good World Cup for me as I have drawn Holland in the Frog and Toad Draw and Spain in the Village Inn draw - a win, win I think this is called - 250 Euros whoever wins!!!!

I agree that Spain seem to have been the best Team throughout and they will probably win - another 1-0 perhaps.

Well done to Spain - final was a bit underwhelming but the best team won.
