email received from Cytanet....

In the context of our efforts to make continuous improvement to the quality of our services, we would like to inform you that on Tuesday 8 January 2008 from 6:00 – 7:00am we will carry out an upgrade on CYTANET’s infrastructure. It will affect the following services:

· E-mail reception. During the upgrade you will not be able to receive any e-mails sent to you. These e-mails will be saved and will be accessible right after the completion of the upgrade. Please note that e-mail sending will not be affected.

· Internet login. During the upgrade you will not be able to connect to the Internet through the login process. However, if you are already connected your connection will not be affected.

· The access to the CYTANET website http://www.cytanet.com.cy, to other websites hosted on CYTANET servers and to MY CYTANET SERVICES will not be possible.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this essential upgrade and we can assure you that we shall make every effort to minimize the duration and the effects of this activity.

Through the CYTANET Call Centre on 8000 8080 we will be available to assist you in case of any problem (Working hours: Monday – Friday 08:00-24:00 and weekends 10:00-24:00).

Sincerely,
The CYTANET Team

As I recall their last upgrade was a miserable failure and they spent days trying to get a service back to normal , so don't hold your breath on this one. It's likely that a reboot of the modem will be necessary so just go ahead and try rather than waiting hours for their helpdesk to tell you. Dreadful service from CYTA , can't wait for Primetel to arrive in Paphos.

Yes, I remember the last "upgrade" too - took ages to get everything back to normal, and there certainly wasn't any discernable improvement in service.

Primetel does look a much better proposition - anyone got any timescales on when we can expect it to be more widely available here in Paphos?

It is times such as this that I am glad we don't have to rely on Cyta. I don't know about upgrading the system, they can't even sort us out with a landline.

Verity,

As you'll be the only one with a connection if Cyta crash the internet, you'll have to chat to your self & keep the site running

No problem Pete. I lived in a house full of males for many years, so I spent a lot of time talking to myself.

I will have some UK members to chat to too.

Have to say, over here in the East, Cytanet are pretty good, the upgrades seem to make things better, have noted on the CL site that not many have a good word for CYTA but can't agree here.

More expensive than the UK but hopefully that will change.

I like CYTA too and find their Call Centre ten times better and more helpful than anything I previously experienced in the UK (for which read India). On their last upgrade, CYTA did advise beforehand that you'd need to do certain things following the upgrade. Printed off the instructions and kept them to hand. Yes, I probably spent 10/15 minutes scratching my head and trying to figure things out (because I hadn't done these things for such a long time) but I was soon back on-line. I may be naieve in the extreme, but it's nice to know that CYTA upgrade their infrastructure periodically.

At the risk of being seen to be wearing rose-tinted specs, I'd say it's very easy to forget that we live in a country the size (population-wise) of Bristol; yet we have our own parliament, national airline, stock exchange and utility companies. All things considered, for such a small island, I think they all do a pretty good job. Lloyd (now keeping my head well and truly beneath the parapet   )

Cytanet is not the exact same entity as Cyta, more a division of. Cytanet is the actual ISP (like Netway and others) whereas Cyta is the people behind iChoice.

iChoice had an "upgrade" around 12 months ago if i remember correctly and i had a few hours down time because of it.

Whatever Cytanet are propopsing, needless to say, will only effect Cytanet customers NOT all iChoice customers.

Good point BD, Only Cytanet will be down so if you use another ISP, then you should be ok :?

Well I'll not be here then, as I use Cytanet
