We all try to keep our dogs as cool as possible in the summer months, but was wondering if anyone had any ideas?

I know it has been discussed somewhere else, but our Pet Shop Sponsors to me have come up trumps. I went in to get something the other day and Gill asked me if I had heard of Rock Sulphur for keeping dogs cool. I was immediately interested so asked her to keep one back until the afternoon so I could do some research and big surprise it came up how good it was, even read a really interesting journal from Australia (I think it was) on how beneficial it is to dogs, both for their skin, coat, fleas and cooling them down. So I immediately went back and bought it.

Results I have found is that within 24 hours, dogs had more energy, within 48 hours they were back to eating the same amount of food they do in winter, within 3 days they were actually playing whereas before they just lay around trying to find a cool spot. I give this 100% backing as it has certainly improved my dogs no end and for a mere 3.50 will more than likely last me two years - well worth every cent. Just to put a chunk of the stuff in their drinking water.

I got the rock Sulphur at the week end. I said "You don't think she will try to chew it do you"? No, No they said only if she is mad!! Yes you've guessed it - she did not particularly like it in her water dish and took a while before she would drink but in the end she did and I thought she was fine until last night when she lay down chewing something and lo and behold the rock sulphur - tried again but she got it out again tonight - don't know how to stop her!
And she is so sly - she picks anything up when we are out and she has it in her mouth before I see her - then she looks sly and I can just catch her very slyly rolling it around in her mouth hoping to get in before I notice! Don't know how to stop her - she knows the command "Leave" and will obey but she is so quick and cute you cannot believe!

No advice there I am afraid, but hey she must be enjoying it - not a Cyprus Poodle by any chance as she sounds exactly like my Kookoo.

Petz Stuff at Chloraka have stocked Rock Sulphur for a couple of years but it is out of stock at the moment. There shoud be another delivery in about ten days time.

Rock Sulphur is good for cooling the blood but should not be given all the time. It can help to prevent scratching caused by ''hot spots''.
Some dogs like it in their water, others don't.

Another inexpensive way of cooling your dogs down is to put some plastic water bottles in the fridge to get cold, then you can place them next to your pet when it is resting.

Probably because Sulphur Rock recently increased in popularity thanks to hitting several local forums.

Sue, I meant the fact that they are awaiting a new delivery now. I remember having read about Rock Sulphur a couple of weeks ago on I think Angloinfo as well. I bet that has boosted sales?!

Correct if I am wrong,but is it the policy of the Forum that non advertisers i.e. Petzstuff can have their products promoted?
I think that the administrators should frown on this and block any such attempts at back door adverising,especially from someone involved in this section.

Anyway I posted this to let others know as I for one had never heard of it, but am now pleased that Gill let me know. I also know others have never heard of it and are now trying it out on their dogs.

Only problem I have is that it has given my older cyprus poodle Candy a new lease of life completely and she cost me 25 euro yesterday at the vets after romping round the field so much that she ended up with a grass seed in her ear -
