Three-legged dog left locked up



An appeal has gone out to find the owners of a three-legged boxer dog called Charlie left in an "appalling condition".
The animal, who is believed to have been locked up and abandoned, was handed in at Rhyl police station by local authority dog wardens on Tuesday.

Emaciated, covered in mange and with overgrown claws, Charlie was a "scared and pitiful sight," says the RSPCA.

The animal charity is now trying to find who abandoned the boxer.

The RSPCA's inspector in Flintshire, Fred Armstrong, said he had been called to examine the dog - dubbed Charlie by rescuers - who is now recovering at the North Clwyd Animal Rescue Centre at Trelogan near Prestatyn.

"I was really quite shocked to see him. He was in an appalling state," said Mr Armstrong.

The boxer was an adult dog which had sufferred appallingly, he said.

"He was extremely thin and he had a very serious case of mange, the skin condition which causes a lot of suffering to dogs."

Mr Armstrong said the animal's hind leg had probably been amputated professionally by a vet at an earlier stage - maybe following an accident.

"Because his claws were very long it suggested that he had been shut away for some time with no exercise, maybe in a shed".

Cases of animal abuse like that handed out to Charlie were not seen that often by animal welfare inspectors, added Mr Armstrong. Those responsible could expect punishment under the law if they were discovered.

Pitiful

"This is wanton cruelty. For that reason we're looking to contact them with a view to take action."

However, Charlie is expected to recover.

"The outlook will be good for him. The skin condition is one that can be treated quite easily.

"While at the moment he looks extremely scared and pitiful, in a few weeks I expect he'll be happy again," Mr Armstrong said.

These people needs to be SHOT there no excuse for it. Even better let me at them, i make them suffer for a few weeks before i shoot them. Pull off there toe nails, pull all there teeth out, drip water on them and i save the best till last, pull there bloody balls off with my bare hands, and after put boiling hot water all over them let them cry like a baby for a day or 2 then i shoot them. I not joking either

Ok if a woman no pulling balls off but i can not say here what i do, but involves a hot poker.

I agree the poor little soul why? why? why? I would like to see these people hang their heads in shame plaster their photo's everywhere make it public knowledge so everyone knows what they've done and then do the same to them, then set a load of dogs on em !! viscous ones with fangs at regular intervals makes me really angry.

He does look a sorry state, but at least he is on the mend now thanks to the rescuers.

I agree that people who are cruel to animals deserve the same cruelty done back to them. Prison isn't good enough for b.......s like that.

I have posted about the cruelty in the UK towards animals, and have been told it is far worse in Cyprus.

No it isn't. It is more open in Cyprus because of the Cypriot culture and their beliefs. Shame on the UK population, because their culture and beliefs don't lead them to believe that animals have no souls etc, etc. They should know better.

This is heartbreaking. I hope they get the book thrown at them when they are found.

Aww bless...look at his eyes, they are so sad, what sick b******* could do this? I bet he was the most loving dog to them too, poor love.
I am sure with lots of love and attention, and treatment, this poor dog will eventually get the most loving, safe home that he deserves.

Its the horrible thing to see i hate it i know what i would do to these people but it would probably be one of the most loving dogs to whoever rehomes it poor little thing I which i knew how to put Grecos story on here for you all to read no one would believe what he went through and dont know how he is so loving now but he really is so gentle with us all and gradually he is gaining weight and looking a lot better for it he has stopped being sick after he has eaten now as well so fingers crossed this time in 6 months we will have a right as rain GSD Alex x

What a sad picture I hope he finds a loving home soon.

Animal cruelty in UK is on the increase the RSPCA and others are busier than ever.
