Paphos People

Yesterday my Cypriot boss (Estate Agent) was going through a list of enquiries from clients looking for properties. From the few on his desk he extracted 2 and gave them to me saying "throw these away, don't trust 'em".

"Why" I asked? He said they were unreliable and not to be trusted "how do you know this" I asked. His reply was this:

"their mobile numbers start 999 which Cyta give to people it considers to be dodgy and can't be trusted" he said "you know the pay go phones" (his English isn't brilliant)

I thought he might be winding me up but NO he was deadly serious!

All I could think was that it was lucky my mobile number starts with 990, or I might not have been offered this job!


The funny thing is, since he told me, I had to call his sister who is renting out an apartment she owns ....... and guess what her number starts 999 (Can't wait to ask him about that later )

most cypriots can get upset with the number 9 ..
its to do with a mixture of frustration and confusion that gets them angry..
the reason being, 90% of them dont know what comes after it ..

Sorry Neil, he binned them........ they were looking for cheap long-term rental anyway, not to buy. I'll remember if I get any more though!
