We flew under the Golden Gate Bridge at 150 mph in a helicopter. I don't like the way they can fly on their sides.

Am I mistaken or is that a Wessex Helo :?

I thought they'd stopped using them for personel transports due to their failure rate

I thought you'd be using Sea Jings or Merlins these days :?

Best trip I've ever had in a helo was a Link sub hunter off HMS Norfork when I was down the Falklands, got to fly around the complete islands, those navy jocks are wild pilots, we had the cabin doors open & only strapped in with a lap belt, flying sideways over rugged terrain, scary as hell but wicked :D :D

Its a PUMA, now being changed out with EC225 Eurocopter, you may have seen them at RAF Odiham

Speaking of safe landings, have you seen this video of a plane almost wiping out trying to land in high winds in Hamburg:

Hi John,
Where does the chopper take you and how do you get to Cyprus from there?
How long does it take you to get home ?
Thanks Gary

Talking of scary flights, I remember one from my time in the Falklands :D **This is a true account**

5 days before I was due to fly back to good old Blightie, a Tristar full of serviev personel left the Falklands, approx 15 mins into the flight, one of the engines blew, so the aircraft was redirected to Montybadao (sp?) in Chilli, it & all the personel on board had to stay there for 72hr, including the entertainment group that was flying back until a new engine & engineers could be flown out by a C130 Hercules transporter

Once the Tristar was fixed, they all flew off to the Ascension Islands for refueling onroute to the UK, which takes approx 10hrs from Monty, 2 hours before landing at the Ascensions, the aircraft drop 2000ft & decompressed, as which point, the female vocalist suffered a panic attack when all the oxygen masks dropped down, she needed to be restrained for the remaining flight until they landed at Ascensions

Once at the Ascensions, the female vocalist & her group were medi-vac'd back to the UK & the Tristar was checked over & given the all clear to proceed 48hr later :o

After a further 8hr flight from the Ascension, the aircraft landed at RAF BZN, where upon touch down one of the main landing wheels blew out, making the aircraft swerve under braking, coming to a screeching halt at the end of the runway, with loads of fire engines surrounding it

Just 2hrs later, the Tristar I was on which left the Falklands some 5 days later landing just behind it :o

We bumped into service men & women in the departure lounge who told us the whole story, now I don't believe in God but I'm just glad I wasn't on that 1st Tristar

We are 160 miles east of Aberdeen, on a good day we might see Stavanger in Norway, right on the edge of the British area.

With the new EC225 takes about an hour, this flight was 90 minutes as they had to dodge round snow squalls and head wind.

From now I land in Aberdeen 1000, flight to Heathrow at 1245, then 1700 CY505 to Paphos, all being well get home around 2330, this changes for winter schedule, even though still arrive on land at 1000
