Hi Gary,
I, too, have had problems accessing the site so have only just read this post.
Your boss is out of touch with the situation and is totally out of order to try to put the blame on you rather than the workload. If you are acting out of sorts then there is a reason for it and you have identified that work is at least part of the cause. It is easy to tell yourself that you will do only what is necessary and not overload yourself, but when you are there everything seems to be necessary, and other people put the pressure on you too.
The symptoms you experienced are those of a panic attack. They can feel even stronger than that sometimes, so you are right to go to your GP and get help.
This is not a sign of weakness. It is a sign that today's materialistic and uncaring society is having an adverse affect on people.
It is no secret that I have suffered with depressive illness and I occasionally have a panic attack even now, in sunny Cyprus. I have learned how to manage them, but they are still unpleasant when they occur.
Take this time out and get yourself rested. Do you have an Occupational Health department where you work? They are the people who can support you with a return to work package.
Take care.
Verity.
