Cos I've booked my flight to Australia :crazydance :bounce :celeb2

I fly out on the 15th October for just over 5 weeks!!! And I've pushed the boat out, and booked business class (ooh, get me  ). I'm going to see my bezzie mate who I've known for over 40 years, and it was her emigrating to Australia that made me make my mind up to move here to Cyprus. When she got re-married 20 years ago (can't believe it's that long), I was bridesmaid for her and Ray.

I've emailed her and told her, and she is as excited as me, and it's 31 weeks next Wednesday til I go (not that I'm counting, of course). So I felt I had to share it with you all - sorry it's not Cyprus related, but it's ME related   :bounce

How exciting, Jean. I am really pleased for you.

At least you know you have it all booked up now and have it to look forward to.

Fantastic Jean

You won't be sorry that you splashed out on business class for such a long flight. It is really worth it. This is what retirement is supposed to be all about isn't it?

It may not be PP related but as you said its 'YOU related' & you're one of PP's family members, so it's relative to us all :D :D

Now how about that suit case  :D

Jean you will have a fantastic time!

I went to Oz (Adelaide) for nine weeks back in 1993, the beaches are awesome - and deserted cos the Aussies don't sunbathe!

Can I sneak in your case too?!

Now come on guys - room in my suitcase? You gotta be joking - I get a higher baggage allowance (being business class, don't you know  ), but I know I will probably be creeping to the limit on the way out, and god help me on the way back. Dot (my friend in Oz) tells me it is so cheap to shop there, and one of the excursions she and I will make is to a place called Noosa - if you go out the back way from the hotel you're on the beach, and if you go out the front way you're at the shops!!! Sounds like my kind of place

Well done Jean - I bet you can't wait :)

Which route are you taking?

We may well have to take a visit to Sydney at some time in the future as my stepson now lives there with his mum, stepdad and younger siblings. They moved out this time last year and Tom is retaking his last 2yrs at high school there before going on to Uni.

Hi Shell

How are you??? I'm flying Larnaca to Dubai, Dubai to Singapore, Singapore to Brisbane, with Emirates. As I'm travelling alone I didn't want to spend a lot of time at Singapore, as I would be terrified of leaving the airport  . As it happens, we don't even leave the plane, it's a touch down, refuel, embark for the people who are getting off, let new people on and off to Brisbane, about an hour and a quarter all told! I do have 8 hours in Dubai on the way out, but apparently there is an excellent Emirates lounge for me to use. Can't wait   Such an adventure

Hi Jean

I'm fine. We're still here and still enjoying every minute of our life in Cyprus. No two days seem to be the same, which is great!

I think that's probably the same route we will do, with the exception of flying into Sydney. Clem gets bored rigid flying (I think part of it is he can't have a ciggy though ), so we may have to do a longer stop off. I can't decide if I would prefer to get there quicker and maybe break the journey up coming back or vice versa.

I doubt it will be this year anyway, so you will have to give a full report on your return

Enjoy!

Hope you enjoy your trip. This is the sort of thing Rosemary and I want to do when we eventually settle down in Cyprus. Make the world our oyster.

Business class is so fantastic, we got a free upgrade a few years ago on a Delta airlines flight Atlanta to Manchester.

We were on our way home from Florida with the 2 girls, we were cream crackered having had to make a mad dash between terminals at Atlanta to catch our connection, dont know whether economy was overbooked, and we were late checking in, but it was absolute bliss, bucks fizz, hot towels, reclining chairs , blankets and proper sleep!

Enjoy!! :celeb2

Jean,

I am flying from Auckland to Larnaca in May & I have an 8 hour delay in Dubai & Emirates have provided me with free Hotel room, transport & meal vouchers. You must ask for it from your travel agent & this cutting is from their web site with link.

You are entitled to " As a special courtesy to our passengers, in certain cases where an itinerary calls for a long stopover, Emirates will cover accommodation, meal, and ground transportation costs."

This service is offered to:

Economy Class passengers
If the booking class for the entire outbound or inbound leg of their journey is N, M, W, or Y.
If the connection time until the first available flight is more than 8 hours and less than 24 hours.
Business and First Class passengers
If the booking class for the entire outbound or inbound leg of their journey is D, C, J, Z, A, or F.
If the connection time until the first available flight is more than 6 hours and less than 24 hours.

Please check with your local Emirates office at the time of booking or prior to commencement of travel. Long stopover expense cover must be pre-booked, and Emirates is only able to accept bookings made one day before the day of departure at the latest.

This is the link to their web site.

http://www.emirates.com/nz/English/plan ... overs.aspx

You will love Brisbane our son lives there & I visit frequently.

I am excited about my visit to Paphos so know how you feel & only 8 weeks to go for me!

best wishes,

Thanks so much for that information. I will certainly get the travel agent to sort it for me - sounds perfect, as I have an 8 hour wait going, but coming back it's just 2 hours.

We'll have to arrange a ladies coffee meet up for when you are here.

Hi Jean

Bet you are sooo excited. My mum comes home from Oz on Friday, she will have just done exactly the same route you are taking, business class too, so I will ask her for any tips she may have for you.

Hi Jean,

She didn't take it too badly, she was quite upset, but at the end of the call she said she was glad I told her and thanked us for burying her. :( but at least she'll have had the time to get over it when she comes back on Friday.
Don't forget with Emirates business class, they pick you up in a limo and take you to the airport :D

Only the first 60k, so because I live in Paphos I would have to pay the extra mileage, which I think when I worked it out, would be about £50 CYP each way  Still thinking about that one

oooh that's a shame I didn't realise. I suppose thats one good reason I only live 15 mins away from Larnaca airport. Emirates Planes fly right over my shop, remind me nearer the time and I'll stand outside and wave to you :greetings

Ann, how long will you be in Pafos? Are you spending the whole of your time here, or will you be in other parts of Cyprus too? You may get to catch a Taverna Club if you are interested - I realise that not everyone is. It just seems like half the membership of this site.

How did your mum rate her flight with Emirates? Did she enjoy the experience?

Jean,

Absolutely fantastic, they wouldn't fly with any other airline now. They said the food was superb, they got so many little toiletry bags with all complimentary Bulgari cosmetics, which had everything you could possibly need for the flight, moisturiser, hand cream, cologne, tissues, vanity mirror, toothbrush, toothpaste, body lotion, hairbrush, (the men even got a razor with spare blades) loads of eyeshades, flight socks... everything you could possibly need.

Are you stopping at Singapore on the way, as she said there is a lovely Emirates Lounge there, where you can have a shower and they cook you an excellent meal?

Anything else you want to know, please ask

HTH
