My Computer and modem are downstairs, what equipment do I need to be able to use an IPad or laptop upstairs - also my computer is not wifi?

How old is your modem Molly? Does it have a button on the front? If not, if you go into Cyta, or even ring them up, they will supply a new modem with wifi capability. You should not need to buy anything - they should provide it. When I got my laptop Cyta brought a new modem round for me so I could go wifi.

The modem is a new one Jean with the button on the front, but still cant get wifi upstairs.

Also the lady at Cyta, said my computer needed something fitted to it as well!!

If your computer is a desk top and is an older one, then yes, probably it will, but if you want to go wifi to use an ipad or laptop, then it should be OK. Get somebody to come round with a laptop and try it out for you. When I had both desk top and laptop, I had to hardwire the desktop, but could use wifi on the laptop. Give it a try.

Tried that Jean, the Ipad worked in the bedroom but not upstairs in the lounge. Its all this flipping concrete!

Thats why I wanted to try it out again, before I go ahead and buy an Ipad, cos if I cant get it to work upstairs then there's no point in buying one.

Yea, it's all the reebar (sp?)in the concrete . . . virtually makes it into a Faraday cage. I've been lucky that I haven't had a major problem, but that, as I said, has been luck. Maybe a second modem upstairs, or not sure how a router would work. . ..

Home plugs are what you need. Go and talk to Computer SOS. They will sort you out so to speak.
