You asked for questions, so, here goes! ;)

We live in the UK and have a house in Tala

We have a 1995 Mazda which is getting a little 'long in the tooth'.

We are considering buying something in the UK and bringing it over to CY

Apart from the obvious mechanical implications, what other things should we look out for?
Is it still best for the car to be under 1600cc for less 'duty'?
Do you still need to have owned the car for X months/years before you import it?

Thanks

Hi this is a complicated subject. I have been importing cars for 8 years and am still learning. The duty is a lot less on a 1.6 car ie 2002 honda hrv 260€ . This in not the only cost ,the shipping cost about €1250 all inincluding port fees. The registration is €150 on all cars. The car must be over 6 months old and 6000 miles or you will have to pay vat(i no this is wrong but thats another story). All thinghs consided the quality of the car is the most important factor , I have seen people make the mistake of bringing rusty modles with no spare parts and after sales care. If you have owned car for 6 months and are comimg for the first time and becomeing resident, you can have the duty defered, till you sell car.
