Is anyone knowledgeable about Cyprus insects. I've tried a search without much luck and have three questions.

1) What are the enormous (black or brown I think) bee/fly things (saw one today) and remember big bee things at the Last Castle in 2006!

2) I had a small beige coloured spider on my desk this morning and my Cypriot boss went mad trying to squash it and when he did told me to wash my hands?????? I didn't touch it but better safe than sorry so I duly washed. :?

3) David found a black spider, not very large, but with a couple of red spots/stripes on it's body. It was in his shoe (he always shakes them out before putting on) he spent time in the army in the middle east!

Can any of these be considered dangerous. I saw a wasp today (my phobia) and I must have looked strange charging about the office with fly spray if anyone saw me, but I just have an irrational fear. I hate people who try and swat them because I always think they will come back angry and sting me!

Any help would be appreciated, thanks :) :)

I'm sorry Helen, I'm not an expert but on insects but the first one sounds like a B52, just a giant sized bee :D

you can check out this site http://www.adverts4cyprus.com/pages/pho ... albumID=47

As for killing then, I have the perfect item for that, its called 'The Executioner' its a high voltage, low ampage swatter powered by penlight batteries, as Verity, as she has one

One zap & that either stuns them or kills them depending on size

Thanks Pete, I can't seem to find any information and believe me I've tried.

I would just add that anyone who has a phobia of spiders etc should not click on your link .

They don't bother me but if they had been pictures of wasps I have been known to panic. I know it's irrational, as I said, but phobias don't allow you to behave in a rational manner. :(

Not making mountain out of molehill here.......... but I'm sure a similar link on another site gave a couple of members a bit of a fright and I wouldn't want anyone to look if that's the case! :D
