Hi All,
Coming to view properties in 2 weeks and some of them have no pool but space to put in an above ground pool. Does anyone know of anyone specialising in this? If there are any rules about this? How much will it cost to install and run? I'm just trying to make sure I have enough finance in place. Thank you

If you feel you need a pool then rent a place with one already in place. There are hundreds of properties for rent with pools but it will cost you around 100 euros a month to have someone maintain it plus electricity and extra water top up costs. To be honest, we had a rental with one and my husband did it after having some basic training but we soon realised it was costing a lot compared with the use we got from it. For a good 6 to 7 months it was too cold to use and in summer it got so warm it was not very refreshing. We preferred the sea as we could still swim in it up to Christmas and in summer it was cooler than the pool. The other option would to rent on a complex with a communal pool which is maintained by the owners communal charges which they pay. Your choice really.

16 years living in cyprus and never had a pool yet ,, my opinion is they are an expensive toy , but others would disagree ,
there are plenty of places you can use pools , lots of hotels let you use them as long as you buy a few drinks from the bar..
or , as was said , rent in a complex where the cost is shared

There is nothing like a 3am skinny dip in your own pool on a hot night. They are money pits but you can reduce the costs by buying chemicals in 25KG sacks and installing a PV pool pump or net metering, in which case you pumping is free.

I have 2 pools (one is a tourist let) and the yearly costs are a couple of hundred for chemicals. The only real expense is repairs and renewals which can be horrendous. Leaks especially are a regular problem.

This year has been especially cold in Polemi and as I never go in before 26C, as yet our pool is unused but......tomorrow is the day.

We are buying Beverly not renting. I didn't make myself clear sorry. I want one so that I can do my back exercises in water. The other option would be a deep hot tub. Does anyone know where is the best place to buy and the cost? Thanks for the other useful tips.

I haven't skinny dipped since spending a night on brighton beach with Greenpeace singing songs badly and drinking cheap, but animal friendly beer! LOL

Dave we went in our pool on 27th April Temp was 21 degrees, now touching 25 {not bad for my little frost pocket}

Pools can be a very expensive toy - but you can't beat walking out onto your own patio and getting into your own pool. You don't have to share it with any annoying folks who have inflatable crocodiles etc. We're in Polemi so it takes a little longer for ours to warm up after the winter, but we used ours last year until mid Oct and were back in at the back end of April. So on average you can use it 5 1/2 months of the year, if you are really brave maybe longer. We wouldn't be without ours

You won't be so keen when you have been here a few years .
Frost pockets are more sheltered so warmer in the summer.

Difficult to get more south than where I come from and still speak English, so soft southerner I am. We have a solar water heater (home made) and that has brought the temp up to 27C this afternoon. So I think I will push Mrs PD in and see how much she screams. Skinny D of course.

Same advice applies. You can find lots of homes for sale with pools and some very small developments of just 3 or 4 homes that share a pool. I always preferred the sea but some prefer the stillness of a pool. Good luck with your home hunting.Hot tubs are available but from what I have heard, are almost as expensive to run as a pool.

We've got some ideas now and will do a bit of digging after we have viewed properties.

You are better renting to start with to see if you like the area and the peaple around you i have move down from the east for a better property been here 2 years and everone i ask says I which we had rented first it is your choice just make the right one

Agree it is better to rent before buying as it gives you a chance to have a proper look around the area you intend to live in and enable you to look at more properties of a similar type and price to give you better negotiating power.

However, in the post below 'Offer Accepted' it seems pollye has already exchanged contracts to purchase so hope it all works out well for her.

We have an above ground pool, we are more than willing to provide info etc.
