Hi,
Could someone help me with a problem please?

I have a Dell laptop for general pootling about on the internet, plus a cheapie netbook through which we watch the television.
I've got Windows 8 on both.

My Dell keeps saying 'page cannot be displayed' even though it's showing as connected on my network, plus the fact the netbook's still running and playing the TV quite happily.
I have to disconnect and reconnect to the network on the Dell to carry on with what I was doing.

Is it a Windows 8 problem, a Dell problem, or a problem with my network?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

How often do you restart your problematic computer?

Does that make any difference?

Wireless presumably?

Hi JB,
Yes, I'm wireless.
The Dell goes off periodically when I'm using it - not in any sort of pattern and not when I'm on particular sites, just suddenly pops up with the 'page not found' message as though the signal's gone. That's when I have to re-start it.

Sorry, you misunderstand me.
How often do *you* deliberately restart ... (not because you have to, just as a routine)??

Sorry - about a dozen times a day on average - I tend to dip in an out and turn it off after every time I've finished with it.

Hmmm, it sounds like it's losing the connectivity with your router after a while.
I wonder if it's something to do with your power settings where it's maybe going to sleep after X minutes of inactivity, and then not waking back up again properly.

Maybe look in Control Panel / power options

Dear David and JB,
Thank you very much for your responses and help.
I have tried the more simple solution of changing the 'sleep' settings and for now *touch wood* it seems to have sorted out the problem - not sure how or why, but I haven't had an error message since I did it.
If it does occur again, I'll try some of the other suggestions from David's link.
Thanks to you both.
Regards
Ellie
