Guys,

Not sure what is wrong but the last 2 days when I've logged onto my PC in the morning, its started ok & I've logged onto the internet & everything seems fine but then the PC suddenly reboots :?

I've tried different things like, restarting in safe mode, switching it off at the switch etc, I even tried to retore it to previous date but it wouldn't let me, it came back saying unable to complete :!:

Once I've got it working again, I've done a virus check but that comes back clean, nothing is found, so I think its something hardware, not software... HELP :!: :!:

Its doesn't completely shut down, it just reboots & sometime gets stuck in a reboot cycle...

Not actually check the event log to be honest..

Just for reference, you may remember one of the selling points of Windows XP was 'no more blue screens of death' (BSOD). This was a realy cheap-shot bit of marketing, IMO. The BSODs were there to give you some diagnostics about what the hell had just gone wrong. And, fair enough, most people could not make much use of the info displayed. But Windows XP simply turned-off that last chance error handler. It was not that the crashes did not happen any more (as the marketing hype would lead you to surmise); it just meant the crashes would cause spontaneous shutdown or reboot.
...as you were experiencing.

I note your inability to restore to a prior checkpoint. I suggest you sort that out.
Start -> Control Panel -> System -> System Restore (tab) -> Turn off system restore on all drives (might take a minute - while it deletes all the old stuff, hopefully including any corrupt data that was causing your restore problem)
then turn it on again

Thanks for that Mike,

I think its the fact my PC is a few years old now & as loads of junk on it, so I really need to clean it up & free up some of that wasted disc space, but as I have this forum to watch, I'll have to wait until I can get another pc set up first
