GESY - IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR S1 HOLDERS ie UK State pensioners & their dependents

Regarding GESY, to avoid being asked for contributions, those who are S1 holders are requested please to send an email to one of the following addresses quoting:

Full name
Date of birth
ID no

Email to the Medical Card Department in the Ministry of Health to Mr Soteris Stratis (sstratis@moh.gov.cy) or Mrs Tasoula Michael (tmichael@papd.mof.gov.cy) for a confirmation letter to certify that you are not subject to contributions for GESY according to the General Health System Law of 2001.
Married couples should please send one email showing details of both husband and wife. A confirmation letter will be issued addressed to the husband, or pensioner in the marriage.
It is important to apply for this letter to avoid problems with the tax department trying to claim contributions. If you have neighbours/friends who do not have internet/email, could you please assist them by applying on their behalf.

Does everybody have to do this or only those that did not present their S1 with the GESY application?

I only have the information provided BUT for the sake of a simple email with a few details, it would do no harm to send it anyway....'belt and braces' comes to mind

Looks like everyone who is a S1 form holder should do this.

Otherwise will be charged for contributions and the tax system is one method of collecting payments.

Thanks very much for posting this, but can I please just ask where the message originated from?

I notice on other forums and FB groups some people are querying where this information originated from prior to being posted by Cathi Delaney, Member of Tala Community Council where I originally read it or Peyia Community Service Team (M.A.D).

Not doubting its authenticity but would have expected a link to an official body such as the Cyprus Tax Office or GESY.

This is what I received from the help desk a few months back , so I would say yes it is to be believed .

“After our telephone conversation, we would like to inform you that you will have to send an email to Mr. Soteris Stratis to the following email sstratis@moh.gov.cy informing him that you are S1 holders. You will then be informed about a relevant certificate which you will be able to present it wherever it is needed so that you do not have to contribute for GHS purposes.

Thank you for contacting us, we remain at your disposal.

That's you sorted, as I anticipate a long waiting time to get mine due to the influx of emails over the past few days!

No not sorted yet , I sent the email in June , and another in July , still waiting for a reply .

Excuse my ignorance but is the S1 medical card the same as a E121 card issued to us in Cyprus.

The S1 is not a card , but a form issued by the U.K. nhs , you hand the form to Cyprus healthcare and they give you a card which has E121 on it .

The S1 did used to be called E121 .

I was issued with an E121 form which had so much information it was double-sided.

The S1 form is much more transparent.

Is this for real as I heard it could be a scam?
Don't want to give out personal details to something that it not for real

No one has verified the source of the original article, but the post by Number6 about information he received via email from GESY does confirm its content, so not a scam.

Where did you here it from that it might be a scam?

Out with some friends and one of the ladies said she had sent an email but someone else said she had heard it was a scam so warned us to be careful given personal details out.
Would really like to send an email but a bit concerned.

To those people who think it’s a scam , simple choice do not send an email .

We recieved our MEU3 about 3 months ago,then suddenly unannounced we got E121 ( not S1 ) medical cards through the post.

My wife and I got our email today to confirm that we pay No Tax for GESY-indefinately

Can I ask when did you send your email in with your details before you got this email reply?

We sent the email off a week ago last Sunday. So quite a quick response

Submitted the required info by e-mail on 27 August and received the certified letter giving the exemption dated 4 September.

I know this is resurrecting an older thread, but I had to send the email off today to get the certificate for MiL as her accountant is chasing her for it and I am pleased and amazed to say that the signed and stamped certificate was emailed back within two hours!
