Slow as the british juditial system is, it seems to have dawned on them/the Government that maybe the current punishments for terrorists are not really severe enough (release after only 50% of sentence served & not expelled from the UK).

My view is that the penalty should fit the crime & in this instance (premeditated mass murder) capital punishment should be reinstated.
Anybody hold the same opinion?

Releasing a known terrorist from prison, a man believed so dangerous that he had a team of 20 watching him around the clock and yet was still able to stab two people before he was put out of our misery, suggests that the system is seriously flawed.

If they are mass terrorists and have deliberately stabbed, ran down, shot and murdered innocent random people...then they should loose their lives

I have always been a firm believer in the Death penalty in cases where there is no shadow of a doubt of a persons guilt. In these days of DNA testing, cameras etc that is not difficult. A shoot to kill policy for every terrorist/madman/woman in the middle of committing the act would also save a lot of time and money.
There is a shortage of prison places in the UK at present so this would provide a few. Also, now we are out of the EU constrictions of deportation, we could deport all prisoners who have committed serious crimes back to their country of origin along with their families no matter where they are from.
Too many people in prison for petty crime that could be given community service and too many who really need proper mental health assessment and care.
Prison officers need much more protection and prison needs to be a place that no-one wants to come back to.

But what if the offender came from a poor background, a broken home, was abused as a child, had divorced parents, has ADHD, was cajoled by someone else, is registered as easily led or in any other way disadvantaged. Should the punishment not take into account mental state, financial situation etc.

Should everyone be executed in the same way? Should christians be put on a cross, muslims beheaded, Jews stoned, gays tickled with a feather, pedophiles dragged behind a VW golf on the motorway.

Therein lies the problem with being led from outwit ones own country, and allowing too many liberals to find excuses.

Any other 'excuses' or 'qualifications' to void a death sentence verdict you can come up with Tanny?

In my view they are guilty if they are proved to have done it & suffer the consequences, irrespective.
Like everyone else living in a civilised society (risky comment), they had a choice!

I happen to agree topgun and am simply pointing out the endless lines of mitigation that will be rolled out as always in such occasions for this kind of debate.

Personally I would extend the punishment to any form of murderer.

Surely not now that Boris has a mandate & the poison dwarf 'Burko' has been cast into the wilderness?
