REVISED NEW PROCEDURE FOR REGISTRATION AT PAPHOS GENERAL HOSPITAL

REGISTRATION AT PAPHOS GENERAL HOSPITAL

There are currently three separate locations for arranging appointments, and for subsequently registering on the day of your appointment to pay the appropriate fee and receive your strip of self-adhesive identification labels.

The serving positions at these locations are each assigned to dealing with specific branches of medicine, and although controlling notices are posted they may not be immediately evident.

The three locations are.

1. Location 1: The original principal reception desk - inside the ground floor main entry by the café.
It has four serving positions to the front and one around the corner to the right.

2. Location 2: The Kiosk in the ground floor reception hall on the right beyond the stamp dispensing desk, where all specialist appointments were previously arranged.
It has two serving positions.

3. Location 3: The newly constructed Kiosk in the ground floor reception hall where the Hospital based General Practitioners are still accommodated
It has four serving positions, three currently being used.

Location 1 - From the left-hand side the five positions deal with-

1. Thalassemia, Political Asylum, Thalassemia Trait, Gastroenterologists, Psychiatrists, Dermatologist and the Psychologist.
2. Surgeons and Orthopaedics.
3. Cardiologists, Haematologists and Oncologists.
4. Neurologist, Endocrinologist, Ophthalmologists, Anaesthesiologists and the Plastic Surgeon.
5. Dentists, Dietician, Physiotherapists and Health Certificates.

Location 2 – The Two positions deal with-

1. Urologists and Special Pathologists.
2. Paediatricians and the ENT Doctor.

Location 3 – The Three operational positions deal with -

1. Gynaecologists
2. Pulmonologists and Nephrologists.
3. Hospital Based General Practitioners.

Although it is implied that the correct positions must always be used, it is evident that this ruling lapses within all three locations at times of under manning.

Appointments to visit Medical Specialists will only be given when a referral has first been acquired from your assigned “GESY” General Practitioner.

I'm amazed there's anyone left to use the General as they all seem to have decamped to the Evangelismos and taken their bad manners/poor behaviour with them!

Can you explain what you mean about bad manners and behaviour?

I have been to the Evangelismos several times recently and it has been calm and relaxed as always. I have, however, been to the General this week and that seems to have gone back to how it was a few years back with the usual people trying to get in. I had to see a cardiologist and, when my name was called, I went into the room and found three others had followed me in. As entertaining as the subsequent arguments were, they did waste a bit of time.

I am not criticising your comment, but am thinking of changing doctors and cardiologists to the Evangelismos, hence my question.

I am attending a Cardiologist [GESY] and a Nephrologist [Private] and my Personal Doctor - all at Evangelismos. I have nothing but praise for the courtesy and Professionalism from ALL members of Staff. All Doctors have a computerised Appointment System with the time given - always been kept - nobody has tried to barge in. Blood and Urine Tests are done in the morning and everyone is given a number - very strictly adhered to. The results are available at 12 o'clock for the patient and on the Doctor's Computer. All very efficient. I have never been kept waiting.

I had an occasion to be reviewed by a Consultant at The General last week. Three hours after my appointment time I discovered one of the Doctors was unavailable and I could be there for much longer [there were 3 patients before me] or make another appointment. I declined and went to Evangelismos the next day - and was seen at my appointed time - on a Saturday.

We are so happy with the care at the Evangelismos.

Am I the only one who thought the above comment was directed at the patients?

Have always found the staff in the public or private sector in all departments in Cyprus very courteous and helpful.

As for the behaviour of the clients, that's another story. Certainly if I was still working I would not tolerate the way many of the members of the public speak to the staff.

I took it as referring to the patients. I read it that the shoving and pushing of old at the General had moved to the Evangelismos, hence my question.

Whilst waiting my turn for blood tests yesterday in the annexe an Irish lady was becoming rather agitated at having to wait demanding to know if there was a queue system, it was 9.15am heaven knows what she'd have been like later on!

On another occasion whilst seeing my GP people kept trying to barge in like they do regularly at the General hence my comment about their behaviour!

The Staff are as good as they always have been in the 16 yrs I've been registered there and deserve medals!

She wasn't by any chance a larger lady, late 60s with fake blonde hair? I encountered one answering that description at the general, barging her way in front of the patient who was next on the list as she couldn't get there quick enough in her wheelchair. When the man pushing the chair objected, she gave him a mouthful of abuse and threatened to punch him in the face!

No this person didn't match that description.

Where to go?
My elderly neighbours have been advised by their GESY Doctor to have a Pneumonia injection (The Doctor gave them a script to go to the general for the jab since apparently that is the only place it can be done)
They hold a Cyprus Health Card so their question is…..with the new system, where do they register…..which counter?

They had been advised by someone to go Registration and they will give you labels. Then go to A & E, and they will inject them.
Someone else said they don’t need labels…they are confused

If you read the post at the top, there doesn't seem to be a registration window that covers pneumonia jabs, so my inclination would be to go to A&E and ask there and see where they send you.

Once you have your scrip, just go to the room on the left as you head to the orthopaedic clinic, where they do the ‘flu jabs, and they will inject on demand.

Friends went this morning at 10am...parked immediately outside the main entrance, walked down to the 'vaccinations' office..both vaccinated and on their way within 10 minutes
