My wife & I share a single smart phone, as I don't want one after years of being 'pestered' on the damn things in my business dealings!

However, a couple of days ago I attempted to send an sms message for permission to leave the house, following my wife's earlier solo shopping trip the same day.
This was declined on the basis the one allowable trip per day had already been authorised, yet my wife left the house on her own.

From this experience, I can only surmise the government system only records the phone number of the caller, NOT the ID number which make it 'personal' for people sharing a phone as we do.

This is clearly unsatisfactory for us, so in future we will not be sending an sms message, but simply completing the printable form B & carrying it with us

My wife visited the vets early in the morning with permission for doctors, then later we had to go out and made the sms for number 2 getting in the car. The message sent and battery died, when we got back to recharge the return message was a decline for a second trip out, again from same phone! Just lucky not to have been pulled.

Form is OK providing you are over 65

Maybe you could you already have an old phone lying about or you could buy something cheap and cheerful. Stick in a Cyprus sim card and ONLY turn it on to make your sms call then switch it back off..no pestering then

Just an idea :bearhug

I could, but if the government has invented a system that isn't working as it should, then I would suggest they fix it!
Particularly one where they are intending to apply fines/ or a prison sentence for 'non-compliance'.

The excretia will hit the rotovator at some point I'm sure, especially if a person is taken to court & lawyers become involved.

Ah but IS the system faulty or is it indeed working they actually intended it to by making it more difficult to go outside :pow

Have they been really clever / sneaky

Or maybe its a way to track people only by mobile movement......

I suggest that the system is working exactly as designed. There has to be the assumption that every person has their own phone. By assuming that 1 phone = 1 person (potentially regardless of alien number used) they can monitor the number of times that a person tries to go out.

Operating the system that way also enables the government to identify people trying to go out more than once by using, say, their alien number, then again with their passport number.

Given the speed with which this was done, and allowing for the initial glitch, I think they have done a very good job with it.

I agree with the comment by Effsie above.

Until the latest movement restrictions from 0600 Tuesday 31 March it was possible for two people to use the same mobile phone number to send a text to SMS 8998.

As with any system it needs to be fine tuned and there were ways around the one permitted outing per day per person using the SMS system (people should be careful what they put on FB).

However, I feel the way some people were making multiple and/or unnecessary requests to go out in the early days when this system was introduced also played an important factor in the way the system now functions.

To clarify my point for those suffering with a bout of '747 complex';

Why ask applicants to include their ID/passport number, if the 'System' does not differentiate the applicant based upon this information, but simply uses the mobile phone number?

It does suggest 'big brother' on the one hand wants the 'evidence' against the individual on record, but does not contrive to segregate the permissions from a similar perspective.

Call me cynical if you like!

The system is PERFECT. Those that try to fault the system are being caught out. Excellent. :smilielol

Because they realised that people could get more than one permission with your suggestion. One using the ID (ARC) number and another using the passport number. That's 4 permits for a couple of people.

Surely you are bright enough to work that one out! :crylaughin

Presumably that way whoever checks the text message (police, army etc) can compare the number against the passport/alien slip that you have with you, thereby preventing people sharing permissions to make multiple trips.

I know I am repeating myself, but I genuinely think that the government have done a really good job with this. Given the scale of it, there will always be one or two people who aren't happy, but that isn't the government's fault.

Sorry, but I don't think you can win this argument as everyone else seems to agree that it is working well.

Personally I struggle to believe it every day when I get the permission back before I get the confirmation that the text has been sent. Well done Cyprus!

:bbq

(Can't find Cyprus flag smilie, so here is the next best thing).

As you say, but I'm curious as to who had to explain it to you?

It's working perfectly well as most individuals have a phone each - it's an issue with you not the system if you don't want one!

I agree, blaming others for you own shortcomings.
Its common sense for people to have phones for emergencies etc

The sms system isn't flawed, too many people wanted to go out at once, so it restricted them ! In my book it works .
