With time on my hands in a break from 'domestic chores', I decided to analyse the true benefits from our solar PV System.
Here are my findings for year 2019;

Tracked units developed by system = 5723.7 units
Meter '5' readings credited to system = 4000.4 units
Delta = 1723.3 units 'lost to the system'

A not insignificant 30% of those total units generated!

Couple this with the fact that any positive balance of credits at 'year end' in February reading are taken by the electricity company, significantly reduces the return from our investment.
Most EU countries offer a contribution to costs of installation, Cyprus too NOW, but sadly they didn't in 2017 when we bought into the 'Net Metering Contract'.

Anyone else feeling they have lost out to a contract provided solely in Greek & signed in trust (in cognisance of the adage "beware Greeks bearing gifts")?

I doubt they will be giving these grants out when if things get back to normal TG, and now makes we rethink of investing in PV system as the EAC seem to change and charge what ever they wish.

Those delta units are probaly units you used before export. The system should provide the power for your house first and then export extra units after. For example, if you are using 500w for fridges/tv etc, then the system will provide that power first and then if producing more will then export to the grid. The solar inverter will report the total production.

If you check the meters during the day, the incoming power meter should be stationary, and the export meter counting units. So you have not lost those units, but probably gained more as the price of incoming power will be more than the amount paid for export.

I fitted a grid tie system to the offices because my office in coral bay uses a lot of power to run the servers and air con, my unit cost is over 20c a unit and I am now generating around 1/3 of the daily requirement saving me around €500 every 2 months, the prodromi office uses no incoming power during the day as the inverter is producing all the power needed and is saving 50% of the bill. The system should pay for itself in about 2 years. A net metering system would take longer, but the more electricity you save during the daytime the quicker the roi.

We had a 5kw net metering system fitted in July. Came online at the end of August. For the first two full bills, EAC charged us a Producers Charge plus some other charges, so our bill was €50.29, regardless as to how many units we used, (as long as we had produced the units)

Our last bill changed. For any units that go through the meter (which we have produced) we are charged €0.42007 (inc VAT) per unit. Any units we produce during the day, and do not go through the meter, are free.

We have now got our pool pump on during the day, to take advantage of the free electric. Any baking, washing etc will now be done during the day. We are now using around 1kwh during the day through the meter and about 5kwh in the evening for lights, tv fridges, cooking etc. The units we now use from solar during the day has quadrupled.

Under the new system of charging, we will be better off. Our December and January bill, when we were not here and were charged a flat rate of €50.29 worked out at around €0.15 per unit. To get a bill of €50.29 under the new system, you would have to use just over 1000 units of electricity, through the meter, in the two month billing cycle.
