I was due to come back and then the lock down kicked in, the villa I was due to rent has been taken off the market, this eek I have been looking for an alternative and surprised by how much they have gone up since November last year.

Is it the usual case of the locals trying to recoup lost revenue and not using their brains, if this is the case I will be amazed to see a potential renter paying the asking price.

Prices are horrendous at the moment for renters
But less renters to rent so hang on in with your negotiations

Lots of greedy owners out there right now

Less tourists to rent holiday lets should increase the amount of long term lets, more choice should mean lower rents.
As Migmogs says hang on.

From our experience past and present.
A £600 PM rental lying empty for 6 months the owner loses nothing.
A £600 PM Rental reduced to £500 PM for 6 months the owner loses £600

A very small cottage in our village was up for rent.I enquired on behalf of a relation. This was 7 months ago.
Before I asked the price I had I figure in mind of about 250 euros a month.( it was very very small )
The landlord said he wanted 450 euros per month.I said the best we could do for something hardly bigger than a garden shed was 250 per month. He slammed the phone down.
It is still empty. If he had took up my 250 he would now have 1750 euros in his greasy palms.
Mmmm, "cant see the wood for the trees " comes to mind

Also council taxes, water and electric meter standing charges and property deterioration due to being empty.

That is the point I'm making, it was the same in the 60s.

Just done a quick survey of similar properties to ours in our area and notice the rent asked has dropped from €550 per month to €475 per month. At one stage the average was €600 per month.

Just in case I step out of line I will not name the villa I am about to tell you about, unless Dave allows me to do so.

A few years ago (2016) I rented a 4 bedroom villa in lower Peyia with pool, it was a reasonable villa nothing special, the landlord was a very nice person and did what most reasonable landlords should do so no issues there.

As I have previously informed you I should have come back early 2020 but the lock down happened, all my plans went down the toilet, I lost the villa I was going to move back into.

Just had an email from a agent in Paphos offering me a villa for immediate rent, ironically it was the same villa I rented in 2016, from the pictures here has been no changes to the villa and I mean no changes.

The rent I was paying in 2016 was €875 per month --- Now being offered at the sum of. --- Unfurnished €1500 or Furnished €1700.

Nothing else to say really

Except it will remain empty for some time, in my opinion
