Authorities on Tuesday released information on a number of brands of facemasks that are considered dangerous, nine in total.

The masks of Chinese origin do not meet current basic health and safety requirements, an announcement said. Photos of the boxes and brands to aid consumers in identifying the products in questions can be viewed at the link.

They are stamped with the EU safety symbol CE but have not been certified as protective equipment. “Their composition, structure and shape are not suitable,” the announcement said.

“As a result, an excessive amount of particles or microorganisms can pass through the mask, increasing the risk of infection. The products do not comply with the regulation on personal protective equipment.”

The labour inspection department is calling on the public to notify them if they spot the nine brands on the market

Tel: 22405604 or 22405663 or 22405603.

More information the products are registered on the RAPEX website.

My mind boggles when you are told to make your own out of any old piece of clothing and they are sure home made ones would pass the same tests. :crylaughin

Rubbish! A mask that doesn't do it's job properly just gives an unjustified sense of security. Anyway, only vulnerable and vulnerable older people should be wearing masks, all others should not. The world needs to get some more people infected to produce herd immunity.

Had to visit a bank today and was forced to wear one, an authorised one. The security guard was the usual shrug shoulders type and insisted on everyone sanitising their hands (which I did as I am a nice compliant person).

After doing my hands I asked him to smell them and the chemical stench/perfume which he declared was disgusting. It went over his head that if a simple fragrance walks through a mask then theres very little value to a mask.

Why do you keep on bleating about herd immunity?

An important new study released online this week could have a large bearing on how our future looks in 2021 and beyond.
It suggests our immunity to SARS-CoV-2 does not last very long at all — as little as two months for some people. If this is the case, it means a potential vaccine might require regular boosters, and herd immunity might not be viable at all.

It sounds as if either you haven't watched the video or you don't believe any of it. I'm glad to say that I'm hopeful that what it says is true, it sounds like common sense to me and there seems to be back up to support it!
Also on the subject of masks it has been made clear that any virus is equally able to get in via your eyes but do you see any pressure on people to wear goggle type eye coverings? All contact staff in hospitals wear a visor to protect their eyes so why is it not appropriate for the public. My belief is that the chances of catching the virus is minute (ultra minute) so both masks and visors are generally unnecessary.

I suspect you have heard it before BUT It's all about size

Mask effectiveness is spurring all kinds of conversations nationwide and even causing some controversy.

Some posts circulating online are claiming that since you can smell things like food or smoke through a cloth mask, the covering will not filter the coronavirus. Experts say that's false.

The reason has to do with the size of certain particles.

PS A mask is to protect others, not to protect you

"The particles that cause odors, these are extremely tiny molecules. Although the COVID-19 virus is a microscopic microorganism, it still is much, much more complex than the molecules that would cause odors to be smelled,"
"In fact, there is no way you can prevent an odor coming into your nose unless you weren't able to breathe," he said.

With that said, no mask is proven to keep the coronavirus out 100% of the time. That's why the way you use your mask is very important.

If the mask is not worn correctly then no matter what standard it is produced to it won't work, I speak of the approxamately 10 % of people who walk around with their noses sticking out.

Paps in Geriskipou had cv19 testing at the entrance to the super market free of charge most people took the test but a lot of people on seeing the test area and lab techs turned around and left.
