39 cases of Corona virus reported today, the majority apparently from flights entering Cyprus and I think there were 17 from Mykonos alone. Some idiots entered Cyprus already feeling ill with virus symptoms - now why would any sane person do that?
Such a shame when Cyprus was doing so well!

Numbers have been steadily rising for a few weeks now

Lots of locals flying back home from their hols in Greece
Yet even with these very high numbers of infections

Greece still Cat B and not Cat C country

The mind boggles as to how much infection really is flying in undetected right now

A Spanish doctor's response to the press reports makes interesting watching - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwlkumcRf6w. Clearly he won't get invited to comment again.

People wanted tourists, people want money coming into businesses, this is the price we pay!

Sadly people are without incomes and money to buy even basic food or toiletries
Rents and electricity unpaid
Businesses are going under
People are on the edge

The situation is dire

The country had to open to give people jobs
And even those are few on the ground
And for businesses to survive

My heart goes out to all who are struggling to get by right now

For us who are health compromised ....we need to continue to isolate, wear our masks, distance and use great hand hygiene as much as we did when in lockdown

That way we can all get through these hard next few months of our lives
As a community

Take care all
And stay safe

In a previous thread I said be careful for what you wish for, YES it is sad to see many people without work and having no income to support themselves, but surely you cannot expect to invite people into your country with no risk, then bleat about the rise in virus cases, sorry but you cannot have it both ways.

Reading the comments in various threads I have come to my own conclusions, (my opinion) some of the problems stem from the government who could do more help its people, another train of thought is what is the EU doing financially to help small nations like Cyprus, you all know the answer to that question, what money have they doled out and has it gone to those that need it the most, again you know the answer to that.

Here in the UK we have now reached a massive eye watering debt of £2 trillion pounds, why because we have helped our people.

Wasn't the international community forewarned about Corona Virus before it left China? It amazes me that they can send a rocket to Mars whilst being unable stop a glorified Flu Bug.

Back in January .... the WHO said and advised that all flights where okay in and out of China

When China had said that they had a Novel corona virus that was transmissible between humans

All flights in and out of China should have been stopped at this point

The world now is in a state of emergency that none of us have ever seen before to try and contain and understand this Novel Covid 19 virus pandemic

The WHO and China have a lot to answer for

Stay safe all

It is not as if the transmission of flu or other viruses is a new phenomenon, so hardly fair to lay the blame on China and WHO.

''Seasonal influenza starts in east and southeast Asia and follows a highly predictable path to infect the rest of the world, researchers here said.

The flu arrives in Europe and North America six to nine months after the viruses infect Asia, and finally ends its travels in South America after another six to nine months, the researchers reported in the April 18 issue of Science.

Dr. Russell said in a telephone press conference that flu viruses die out after they cause an epidemic -- mainly because their human targets have acquired immunity -- but are continually being replaced by new ones evolving in what he called a "circulating network" in east and southeast Asia.

Every year, one or two strains emerge, cause seasonal epidemics throughout the world, enter the "evolutionary graveyard" of South America, and disappear after causing one last burst of disease, he said.

Well I wonder what Cyprus will do today when considering the categories for travel into Cyprus as the UK has gone mad with cases yesterday of over 1700!! It is an absolute nightmare here. People who are not going abroad are flocking into small seaside towns and going mad - no social distancing, few wearing masks, going to the toilet in the dunes worse than dogs!! Our harbour chippy is not opening today because they day after the horrendous week end they cannot manage to open safely. A chap I was speaking to earlier this morning was telling me that his neighbor had just returned from Scarborough that was absolutely heaving and he returned early because it was not safe to stay. People are moaning that they need more help from the Government but they certainly have the money for holidays!!
People protesting in Trafalgor Square not wearing masks or social distancing because the Government is telling lies and there is no such thing as Corona Virus!!
The UK has gone mad - my advice to Cyprus is to keep us out - you don't want us!!!

Poppytim, Sadly your post is spot on, there is nothing really you can add to it, that said the only bit of good news there was only 1406 new cases yesterday. Oh Well

Or of course you can accept it as another relatively flu like illness that has been over hyped and just get on with your lives.

Or we can remember the ones who have died a terrible death like my daughters , friends dad , who was 56 years old and extremely fit he was referee of his local boys football club

Or we can remember the ones like our best friends young son in his 20,s who spent many many weeks in a coma...and has come out brain damaged , does not recognize his own dad, now has a bad heart and still cannot walk.

This pandemic has been nothing like flu

There are many thousands who have died..the figures now have overtaken a typical flu season.....and many many thousands who got this virus and who have been left with terrible organ injuries that may take years to recover if ever

As dr Sylvia from Evangelismos said to my best friend ...she watched a healthy 24 year old be brought into her care...her description was...it was as if his lungs had been eaten they where so bad...he died within 1 week

She carried on to say ...this is not flu

Ask Dr Joseph Moutiris head of cardiac surgery in Paphos General ...and Professor of Nicosia ...is this virus flu....and he will categorically tell you from what he has seen and witnessed himself as a dr treating covid patients ...the answer is no!

But wey hey ...we can all carry on and pretend it is flu if you want to and just pretend this is all hype!

Why are people defecating in sand dunes, rave parties etc etc ....where has all of this animalistic behavior come from?

They dump their rubbish without thoughts...they attack police, they will not follow simple rules of law, they trash all parts of history, they have no respect for anyone including themselves and worst of all ...they laugh and are proud of their terrible behavior

Is it just me ....but the pandemic seems to have brought out the worst in feral behaviors, world wide

Truly shocking behavior

What has happened to respect, law and order and just basic manners, morals and self pride

An infrequent traveller to the UK I have noticed a general deterioration since 2001 with regards to acceptable behaviour and as it was not regulated in the early days it is no surprise that it has increased over the years and when people are now having to fend for themselves mainly due to loss or a reduction of income it is bringing out more extreme examples as have been mentioned earlier.

Those who adapt best to the current situation will emerge the strongest.

Going to disagree Alexis

I come from a large family poor back ground
All of my family has done amazingly well
Although statistically we should have failed

My husband also comes from a large impoverished family
But he also as has all of his family have done great

This is not about the fight of the fittest ...we grew up poorer
and did amazingly well
And are great human beings

This is not about the poverty card or the colour card

It is about dreadful behavior, this is about no discipline, no respect, this is about not caring about anyone else other than your self

This is not about covid...though covid has brought this to a head

It is about bad parenting, no grandparents or aunties about to give good information
This is about no mum being at home with dinner on the table after school
This is about no real family time any more

This is about being spoiled beyond belief

This is about complete breakdown in society, respect, morals, dignity and self pride

Us post war poor people with far less than today’s society .... did not become feral , far from it...we became respectful of authority , respectful of our elders, we learned as much as we could and had absolute respect and pride in ourselves and those around us ..we cared!

The uk government through covid paid out more per capita than any other country in furlough wages. And bless them for that

People have relaxed and enjoyed the no stress of work and have actually enjoyed time out of work , for months , whilst being paid

But that has for some dreadful reason of no work and having money has brought out the absolute worse in society....a society now based on me-ism

My heart bleeds at the selfish , disrespectful, self centered , no pride , arrogant world that is here now!

Sorry rant over lol back off the soap box
:soap :soap :soap :soap

Good news in Cyprus ...new cases down into single figures

No apologies necessary - my comment was an overview whereas yours are more subjective.
