From the Cyprus Mail.

The Met service has issued an extreme heat warning for Thursday evening, with temperatures inland expected to reach 46C.

The warning will remain in place between 10pm and 6am Friday.

During that time, inland temperatures and the north east coast are expected to reach 46C with mountain regions seeing temperatures up to 35C.

Thank goodness we are South West in Peyia area and not North East ....46 degrees temperatures overnight is going to be horrible

Bit worried even here ...as my husband has been struggling these last few days
Needing his inhalers a lot more ....we cannot cool the house with Air Con...as he cannot use Air Con

We use ceiling fans to try and keep cool with

Usually he has been going out over night to sit outside in the cool to ease his breathing

But no air out there tonight ...such a still evening

It is 32 degrees in our house right now ...even with every window open and every fan on

Red weather alert tomorrow day time also ...as we have a seriously hot day ahead
As well as a hot night

Be glad when the next 48 hours is over
And cooler temperatures come back

Stay safe all

The labour ministry has issued a dust alert for Friday and warned vulnerable groups of the population to stay indoors as much as possible.

The high concentrations of dust only add to the discomfort of the heat wave gripping Cyprus this week. Temperatures today are set to soar to 45C inland.

I keep a stock of the 'cool blocks' in my freezer ( the ones used to keep your picnic chilled in a 'Cool Box' ).
In the over-powering heat, one or two of these (wrapped in an absorbent towel) are good to cuddle or lean against ... especially if we get a power-cut at the same time :tickedoff
I hope that everyone can 'Stay Chilled' in this weather ! :bearhug

The old Army trick to keep cool in the searing heat out in the desert was to, soak a towel in water-cold if poss, if not warm was OK. Then just wrap it around your neck. Works all the time. I have now seen brickies on building sites doing the same thing, might be ex squadies.
