People of Peyia and surrounding areas
Please be aware that there is a growing outbreak of virus cases in Peyia village

That have come from a funeral that happened in the village
Apparently approximately 100 people attended the funeral
One man at least came from Limmasol ...
which is where the outbreak is thought to have come from

There are 14 cases so far having been found in Peyia , so a cluster is forming

Eye witnesses of the funeral which was Cypriot ...are saying some wore masks
But lots didn,t and there was lots of hugging and kissing which is what happens at funerals

I was given this information yesterday by George owner at Sielis vegetable shop .....he was very concerned and giving out a warning that the virus was now out in the village and spreading
And today I read on Linda Leblanc coalition face book page the same story ...with warnings out to all who live in Peyia and surrounding areas to take extra care

Please be more guarded than ever when you are out shopping

Stay safe everyone

That is not good at all, will people never learn, this will never go away until we get a vaccine because people are stupid.

Do good people have a support group for expats/ if there is a problem who do you turn to?

My thoughts are with you :-(

The Cypriot community is a lovely community
A funeral would have been a big event for them
Though protocols where in place no more than 10 ...sounds like this was not followed

Not sure of any support groups for any expats

We all just need to carry on with the basics as asked for and be extra vigilant when out shopping

I hope that this cluster doesn,t grow any more than it already has

And that no lives are lost or long term covid illnesses happen

It is all so sad

What chance doe anyone have when the church won't follow the rules :huff :tickedoff

Police to take action after scores of people in Nicosia church violate measures.
Images of a mass gathering at a Nicosia church on Sunday showing social distancing measures were not being kept prompted police to head to the scene.
The liturgy from the Filoumenos church in Orounda village, Nicosia was being broadcasted live on the state channel CybC on Sunday morning but the picture quickly prompted the reaction of the public on social media, where people appeared to be a hair’s breadth away from each other with many not wearing a mask.

This prompted the ire of social media users who lambasted the government for lockdown measures, crippling businesses while measures in churches are not being adhered to.
The police press office said officers went to the scene at the church as the liturgy was being rounded off. Most people quickly put their masks on but two were found without wearing them.

Officers will now be looking through the footage to track and locate those who violated the measures, police said, adding that the church itself will have to be dealt with by authorities.

Sadly Dave you are right, what chance has anyone got when the Church does not set a good example, surely the church should not be condoning such gatherings, obviously not, or is it the church needs the money and god will keep them safe.

Sadly we are hearing that a young woman in her early 40,s from
Peyia, who works in a local Bar has been rushed into Farmagusta Hospital
Unfortunately she has very bad asthma and has tested covid positive

Our thoughts go out to her husband and young son for a speedy recovery :bearhug :heart
