Starting on May 1 British nationals vaccinated against the coronavirus will be allowed entry into Cyprus without any restrictions, deputy Tourism Minister Savvas Perdios said on Thursday.

“We have informed the British government that as of May 1 we shall facilitate the arrival in Cyprus of those British nationals who have been inoculated with vaccines approved by the European Medicines Agency, so that they can come here without needing a negative [Covid] test and without needing to quarantine,” Perdios told the Cyprus News Agency.

It follows a similar arrangement reached with Israel on February 14.
The minister clarified that this will only apply to British nationals who have received both doses of the vaccine, the second vaccine being administered at least seven days prior to the date of travel.

He also qualified that whether British people do travel here is contingent on the UK government’s policies.

Authorities in Cyprus reserve the right to take random samples at the airports, including among those having been vaccinated.

Those immunised must still observe all protocols on arrival – masks and distancing.

Earlier, the government decided that British tourists would be allowed into Cyprus as of April 1, provided that Britain is categorised as a ‘green’ country.

That means that as of April 1 British nationals without a vaccine will be allowed to travel to Cyprus if they have a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of arrival.

The new country category system kicked in on March 1 for EU countries, and on April 1 for non-EU countries.

Perdios said the new arrangement concerning British nationals was extremely important for the island’s tourism industry, which has taken a massive hit due to coronavirus-related restrictions.

“We feel it’s another step in the right direction, to create the necessary stability and a sense of safety among travellers so they can start planning their holidays this summer.

A bit silly in my opinion stating 1st May when Brits are not allowedforeign travel until 17 May at the earliest and that decision will be based on various things but at least one being the rate of cases and vaccine so to be even considered Cyprus needs to get its finger out especially as cases are now so high

My own husband who is very seriously at risk
Has no chance of first vaccination for many many weeks

I have already decided to wait for my own vaccination until he can be vaccinated also

And then 3-4 weeks for vaccinations to kick in

Many months ahead of us in isolation to come

But the country for businesses also needs to open up

I would have thought it far better for you to have the vaccination as soon as it is available.

At least then you will be protecting yourself and perhaps your husband too while he waits.

As I know he would push me to get vaccinated
But it is hard ...when he is so vulnerable!

May we all be vaccinated soon
As said before...we need the island to open up again fully ASAP!

I have to agree with Alexis Migmogs. Get your vaccine now - the best way to protect you and your husband!

Hopefully vaccinations for the very vulnerable will be released at the same time as when my age group is to be covered Poppytim or even before my age group!

Apparently a lot more vaccinations are due to arrive this month into Cyprus

Migmogs - I often agree with 99% of you post's, however on this occasion I do not, may I respectfully say that you should get yours done as soon as possible.
You never know, there may come a point he may might need your support, if you have not had yours done and you will not be able to.

I am 66 and my wife is 63 I got mine done before her, she had no issue with it, okay we are ahead over here and she has now had the jab, we both have had no side effects.

I cannot comment on how it is being rolled out in Cyprus, may I suggest you speak to a GP, from what my friend Paul from Peyia has said (he has had his) Doctor Molly is a fountain of knowledge speak to her and ask her opinion, she also may know a way for both of you to be fast tracked due to your heath conditions.

I’m sorry MM but I can’t follow your reasoning in waiting till you can both be vaccinated together.
You say you haven’t spoken to him about it but if he knows it’s available to you and you don’t take it, he won’t be happy
Like others have said, get it done as soon as it’s available, both for your protection and you OH’s

Can't agree more with the comments above, why wait, receiving the vaccine may not (directly) do your husband any good, but equally it won't do him any harm.

I know it's not been fully proven that having had the vaccine doesn't stop you passing it on, but as someone else says above, he may need your help if he does become ill, and I sincerely hope he doesn't.

If I were in his position, I'd be pulling you to the vaccination centre by the earlobe.

Laughed out loud by being dragged by the earlobes to be vaccinated.. as yes ...he probably would do!
He is a very caring, considerate, non complaining and kind man, who would and does put my safety first and who most definitely would argue with me on my thoughts!

My heart though goes out to all of the vulnerable sick who have not been looked at yet for vaccination, who are younger than the criteria ...we have a few on this forum

Fingers crossed ...that a lot more vaccines will start now to come into Cyprus...so even more vaccinations can be rolled out. Apparently a lot more due now in March

I have been impressed that Cyprus has taken the same route as the UK and other countries now in a 12 week follow up dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine ......which will quicken up the vaccination roll out
