Hi

I've been watching drive through videos of the Paphos area on YouTube.

I see there are roadworks around the bus station near the harbour. I heard a while back that they'd discovered ancient ruins under the bus station and we're going to excavate them.

Is that what's going on and if so, where are they putting an alternative bus station, or, is it just roads works?

Thought it was just repairs to the road there although there's a new bus depot type area being built on the waste ground next to T4 2 on TOTK where Kings Taxis used to be - now that will cause traffic disruption there for sure!

;)

The road works are a Roundabout being built. The new bus station will be on the T.O.K's road. The new intercity bus station is being built/modernise.d up in the old town

The harbour bus station has been demolished and the tarmac removed as it should never have been built there due to the antiquities below it. While they reinstate it they are putting in a roundabout to ease traffic at the car park junction.

The temporary bus station is on the dirt area adjacent to Hondros restaurant.

Work has already started on the replacement bus station, which is on the ground opposite McDonalds on Tombs of The Kings. It looks like access will be from a side road so as not to affect the dual carriageway.

It seems a little sad that they have started this work and closed the roads round the harbour, just as the shops have been allowed to reopen!

'The Build-Operate-Transfer project includes the creation of a large modern bus terminal in the area “Karavella” and two transit and bus parking spaces, one on Tombs of the Kings road and the second in the parking lot of the archaeological park at Limanaki, Paphos harbour.

The project also includes the creation and installation of 196 ‘smart’ bus stops in Paphos and Geroskipou, and the creation of 30 modern public sanitation spaces'.

If by smart bus stops you mean ones which show real time displays of how long a bus is due and similar displays in buses showing position on route, then great ! When on holiday in Tallinn, Estonia all their buses and stops have smart displays , really useful for a stranger who doesn't speak the language . Technology being used to improve the customer experience , unlike most things they say will do this, smart displays actually do !
