The cases are going up and up and even more hospitalisations - it is so sad when in the Autumn you were generally only having 10 daily cases on average - now well over 350 and even 15 in Paphos. I think the Government needs to act now if they want tourism back in May. Are you all letting your guard down? I have seen facebook pictures of friends hugging elderly cypriots and lots not wearing masks. You need to hang on for a few more months for the vaccinations to be done - please don't spoil it now!

Here in the UK we have been shielding for a year and yes it is bloody difficult! You want to see my shaggy mane!! However I had need today to go to the Doctors - had to wear my mask - was not allowed inside until my temperature was taken - only 4 people allowed in the waiting room well spaced apart. The seat was disinfected before I sat down and after I left it. Everywhere was spotless and constantly wiped down. I used hand gel on entering and on leaving and a thorough handwash when I got home. Is this happening over there?
Stay safe everyone!

I think people sadly are relaxing after a long winter strict lockdown...and all of us globally are beginning to get covid tired! We will have been isolated from friends and family for 12 months in a couple of days time...We all so want to just get back to normal...but as you say ...this is not the time ...in fact we as a couple have doubled back up our own safety care when out!
I always put new gloves on in the car before I get out to go into a supermarket...as I enter I sanitize my gloved hands and trolley handles etc...and as I leave ...I turn my gloves inside out into a bin and re sanitize my hands....and wash my hands thoroughly when I get home....so many now...entering all shops with masks but with no hand sanitizing now!

Which is so sad to see ...as yes now numbers and more importantly ill patient numbers in hospitals are rising!

Let’s hope that we all get vaccinated ASAP...vaccinations are the only way out of this!
As as a holiday destination we need urgently, but safely to open our doors up once again to tourism!

It also amazes me how people think it is acceptable to pull their mask down to chat on the phone!

I agree that in general there is a subsection of the general public that is ignoring the current regulations and many more people are not as careful as they used to be.
Still yet to come across authorities checking individuals or businesses anywhere during my infrequent excursions.

Just hope the people who have had the vaccination also don't let down their guard as vaccination is only one of many ways to stop the numbers of positive cases rising.

However, still not overly concerned, as life must go on and from my perspective it is up to me to take any necessary precautions, so hope Cyprus can keep moving forward to opening up sooner rather than later.

Very worrying trend!
Have they genome tested and worked out which variant I wonder... for yet another spike?

In the uk, Portugal, Ireland and now Estonia and other EU countries ...uk variant being more contagious ....sent the infections rate through the roof....followed of course by more in hospital followed by more deaths

It,s the hospital admissions that I am following...according to in Cyprus news ...currently running at 92%
Ages admitted 17 - early 60,s
Roll out the vaccines soon!

Stay safe all

I really believe that Limassol should be totally isolated. It is my opinion that, that is where it is all spreading from.

Probably too late for that now cameraman! Approx 15 cases in Paphos every day now. In my opinion people have got to be more careful until more people have been vaccinated.

From 6am on Tuesday until 6am on Wednesday police carried out 10,590 checks for breaches of coronavirus protocols and fined 168 individuals, including two business owners, for violations.

The numbers by district:

I had to go to Limassol yesterday and couldn't believe the number of people who were walking round with their masks under their chins and totally ignoring social distancing. Hardly surprising that they have so many new cases there.

I was listening to GMTV this morning when Grant Shapps transport Minister was asked about foreign holidays. He just confirmed what everyone knew that they have a task force set up to look at this and they will be reviewing all the information on 12 April for the very earliest date of 17 May. What he did say though is they will not only be looking at the situation re cases, vaccines etc in the UK but also all other countries and of course it would be a concern that young people under 18 will not be vaccinated so they want a very cautious approach.
Make of that what you will!

Just over 25% of new cases
Are uk variant

https://cyprus-mail.com/2021/03/11/coro ... h-variant/

If Cyprus follows every other country where the uk variant became dominant

Infection rates took off, followed by hospitalizations, followed sadly by deaths

Stay safe all
