We are hearing from a couple of business owners that the government ar very concerned about the rising Covid figures and are seriously considering another lockdown from 19th April until Easter

Let us hope....that things start to calm down

So many people need to go to work...and businesses need to stay open

Hospitalizations will rule what happens next though
Over 60 in high dependency units ...don,t know our capacity?

The new variant is causing problems same as it did when it hit other countries, as it is more infectious

Stay safe all

I think it is going to have to be another lockdown if they want any chance of UK tourists back - don't think they will want tourists from Germany or France as rates still really high there. Countries are fighting for UK tourists and Malta si offering up to 200 euros off hotels in a bid to get tourists and they are doing really well with the vaccine roll out. I thought Cyprus were but it appears they are now near the bottom of the table for vaccine roll out.

On my weekly shop
Everyone wears masks as they enter ...most worn correctly
But hardly any one now ...cleaning their hands on entry
And cleaning their trolley handles etc

Personally I always wear a new pair of disposable gloves...put on as I leave my car
As I enter I use hand sanitizer to then clean my gloved hands and the handle bars of my trolley
But hardly any even stop to clean their hands let alone their trolley handles and basket handles

Maybe they need to bring back the person who stays outside to make sure that people clean their hands as they enter...as they used to do?

These are all simple steps that we can all make...to make a difference and help to stop lock downs

The terms......Hands, face, space, ventilate
As covid exhausted as we all are ...still need to be followed

The growing numbers are concerning ...none of us want our hospitals to over run

Very true Migmogs people do get complacent. I went to the EE shop yesterday which is located inside Argos. As you probably know most shops only re-opened on Monday in the UK so it would seem that they are being really careful as I was met at the door and asked my business, offered hand gel then waited for the EE staff to escort me to where I was sat with a full screen between us. All distance markers and arrows on the floor with one way in and one way out. As I was waiting I was talking to one of the people on duty at the door and she told me she was the Manager of the Store but not too big to do the menial task of door duty. I was very impressed! However on going to the Hairdressers today which is in our main shopping street I was annoyed to find that hardly anyone was observing the one way system - walk down on the left and back up on the other side - so easy and clearly marked!

It is so difficult we all want normality back
But we all have to just hang in a bit longer
Here in Cyprus we now have the uk variant...that has becoming dominant
You saw in the uk ...the devastation it brought in massive figures growths
For hospitalizations, serious illness and then deaths

those figures once started are baked in
And our figures here in Cyprus are growing ...for hospitalizations, serious illness etc

Covid exhaustion and complacency are taking their toll...We all need for now to remain on alert!

Will we in Cyprus close down again on lockdown? Yes! If the hospital numbers continue to increase

Some people don,t get or understand lockdown...they think lockdown is about control of human rights...When it is about saving lives ...and stopping hospitals from being over run and then even more unneeded deaths

Stay safe in the reopening of the uk
This is a dreadful virus

I see very little prospect for international tourism through until at least the fall of 2021. I am anxious to get airborne and return to ROC but planning no sooner than spring 2022. And that is still an open question. If you see the P1 Brazilian variant show up, seriously hunker down.

It is now increasingly obvious that vaccination is the only way. Just look at how well the UK and little Malta are doing now both with very high vaccination rates. However at this rate I can see all tourists overwhelming Malta as one of the only europeansafe places to travel to.

Have to disagree there - 'It is now increasingly obvious that vaccination is the only way'.

It is a combination of a number of factors and this is where Cyprus is not just lagging behind but failing to address the problem.

Not helped by announcements such as this:

I have had both jabs. But I will still treat everyone else as being infected. So I will keep wearing a mask and keep my distance. Better safe than sorry.

Numbers continue to bounce upwards

To go up on a Sunday is a bit worrying as the weekend figures are normally lower
Because less people are tested

Nicosia seems to be the new epicenter

852 new cases today ...with 3 new deaths ...more worrying the hospitals are filling up
Uk variant is now here in Cyprus
Stay safe all

It is very easy to see the difference in opinion of those on a regular pension which has been completely unaffected in the last 18 months to those who have spent most of this time on unpaid leave !

Rather than impose any more restrictions the first step would be to monitor more closely those that are already in place.

Only reason they're not working is because so many people are getting away with it.

It is horrendous for everyone....watching so many people out of work with no income suffer and businesses shutting ...it is utterly heart breaking

I agree with you Alexis....make sure that the rules set in place are actually being followed first

On the news ...it is being said that things will remain the same....the government does not want to close down in another lockdown
But hospital numbers will dictate what happens!

I see that the government has announced no changes in the restrictions until at least the middle of May.
