Paphos airport travel requirements + WARNING

I took my friend to Paphos airport yesterday evening (Saturday) for a flight to the UK on Easyjet
At check-in he was asked for
Ticket / boarding pass
UK Locater form
PCR test NOT MORE THAN 72hrs old!!!

Once through security he was asked again for EXACTLY the same documents at immigration

WARNING ......... BEWARE OF PCR TIMING
A couple in front of my friend had their PCR test done on Wed morning for their Saturday evening departure. The ‘time’ of the test is shown on the result and although the test was done 3 days (72hrs) before departure it was 8 hours ‘out of date’ and they were not allowed to fly

What I don't understand is how that couple failed to understand the rules.

The authorities are very clear that the test must be less than 72 hours old. If they had their tests done well over that 72 hours limit beforehand, it was inevitable that they would be turned away.

It is unfortunate for them that they were turned away, but it shouldn't really have come as a surprise.

Looking at the latest from the Gov.uk website for England I can’t see anything about 72 hours? It mentions having a test 3 days prior to departure. Maybe I’ve misread it?

As Effsie says 3 days = 72 hours

The validity of your PCR test whether a nucleic acid test, including a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test or derivative technologies, including loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) tests; or An antigen test, such as a test from a lateral flow device….STARTS at the time shown on the test result and is valid for 72 hours (3 days)

Example
If you test on a Wed at 9am and get the test result at 4pm, the test is only valid till 4pm on the Saturday, 72 hours (3 days)

Just an addition to MAD's comment:
'Example

RAT and PCR Tests (in general)

Do check the small print whether it is by SMS or in a printed format or handwritten (eg issued by pharmacy) because the ones I have checked have given the time the sample was tested which is not necessarily the time the results are issued.

Also, in some situations where a paper form and a SMS was later sent from MOH CYPRUS for the same RAT test there are two different times!

If it were me, I would wait until after my scheduled flight time before walking into any lab to get a test done i.e. less than 72 hours beforehand.

Also if my flight were delayed I would still be sure to check in at the right time just to be certain that I cannot fall foul of the 72 hours.

I have recently booked a cruise from Limassol and we have to have a rapid test at the port before boarding and I have just learned that we have to have another test on our return to get back into Cyprus. Hopefully the second test will be at the port the same as at the airport!
