Happy New Year to you all.

A friend is travelling to North Cyprus in March and is wanting to visit us. They are hoping to get a Hire Car for the trip, but I am not sure if they are allowed to bring a North Cyprus Hire Car to the south - can anyone enlighten me please?

Most car hire companies in the Republic specifically ban cars crossing in to the north of the island.

Your (or their) best option might be to ask specific rental companies in the north what their policies are.

I know there have been issues in the past with hire cars being impounded in relation to outstanding fines racked up by previous renters, which may explain part of the reluctance.

We used to regularly hire a car in the TRNC to drive to Paphos and never had a problem.
Had to use the Metehan/Agios Demetios crossing and have a letter of authorisation from the car hire company.
There used to be 3-4 companies that offered this.
