he Municipality of Paphos is proceeding with the replacement of existing water clocks with a total of more than 27,000 smart meters.

The replacement is part of the project “Supply, installation, operation and maintenance of an integrated system for smart management and measurement of water resources”.

According to Paphos Mayor Phedonas Phedonos, the use of smart water metres allows for high metering accuracy as well as continuous remote measurement of water

Phaedonos said that the system allows accurate knowledge of water demand and the immediate detection of leaks, leading to great savings and allows the collection of historical consumption data.

“Water, as a valuable and necessary resource for humans, will be managed more properly so that we can receive its beneficial properties over time without fear of its adequacy and quality”, he added.

Technical question
its obvious how the remote reading circuitry is powered on a remote read electric meter, it is powered from the incoming supply and the data is modulated onto the supply cables , but where does the power come from on the water meter ? battery / data sent on wifi ???

Really the purpose f these is far more nefarious than Mr Fedonas is letting on.

Lets be honest, his municipality can barely read the old meters and to trust what are more or less administrative retards with more complex information is folly. Nothing is ever done by governments for the peoples benefit.

Screw him, screw his meters.

I hope the computer system and people running this system succeed ! Will be chaos if it doesnt, A while ago when i read on the Cyprus papers than they were having difficulties tracking down speeding offenders as there is no national database for car and driver registration , it is divided into regions and the system are not entirely compatable with each other ! Its only a piddly little country of a million people , UNBELIEVABLE, well actually the sad thing is , it is believable.
