A UTOPIAN LIFE

It was Jimmy’s birthday. The day had been pretty ordinary so far, the same as yesterday and probably would be exactly the same tomorrow. He had been woken at seven thirty, sat up in bed and had a cup of tea, milk and two sugars exactly how he liked it.

Getting up, he had a nice warm bath, not too hot, dried and powdered and in his dressing room his clothes were all laid out ready for him. His personal assistant dressed him making sure that buttons were correctly done up. Looking very smart, he went to the dining room.
Breakfast was served it was his favourite, marmalade on toast, followed by sugar puffs with milk, finished off with another cup of tea.

The lounge was all ready for him. The central heating was on, set at nineteen degrees centigrade and his favourite arm chair was all plumped up. He sat there and relaxed. Soon he succumbed to the influence of Morpheus and head dipped forward as he napped for a while. He was awakened at ten o’ clock for another cup of tea, this time with a digestive biscuit. He smiled as the distinctive taste made its presence felt on his tongue.
Lunch was served spot on one o’clock, scrambled egg, mashed potato with lots of butter and baked beans. What could be better?

The weather cleared up in the afternoon and the sun came out, Jimmy was sat in the garden. The delicious scents of the flowers filled his nostrils and his face was visibly relaxed as he inhaled all the different aromas that were around him.

As it was his special day, friends and relatives had come from miles around to mark the occasion. They all sang Happy Birthday to him. A cake had been prepared with a single candle’s flame brightly dancing in the breeze. It was placed on the table in front of him. He reached forward and recoiled as his hand neared the source of the heat. The taste of the chocolate birthday cake soon took away any fears of the hot flame and it was soon forgotten.

“How old is Jimmy today?” asked Rosemary, one of the carers, as she put another cup of tea down in front of him.

“Twelve” replied the other “He hasn’t got to worry about things like Covid or Russian invasions, Jimmy is safe and secure here in his utopian world. Although he probably just takes it day by day as he is Deaf, Dumb and Blind.”
