Helicopters flying over our house carrying water
With these very high winds ...this could be a catastrophe

Just read a fire is up near Panorama Villas on the hill above Peyia

Lots of brush land ...and trees all around that area ...coming down to upper Peyia

Sirens now being heard ...sounds like fire engines also now on their way

A forest fire is ongoing that occurred at 15:00 Saturday in the area of the Kathikas community.
A strong firefighting force is working to extinguish the fire

I posted at 2.46 and the helicopters where already flying over our house as where the spotter planes

So the fire started a tad earlier than 3 pm ...as not sure how long it takes to scramble these things to get to a fire?

Just read from a woman who actually passed the fire just as it started ...she said it started in the Panorama Villas ...and immediately jumped across the main Kathikas rd to the other side of the rd setting everything ablaze

With these winds...it could so easily have blown the other way straight down to Peyia Village

Spotter planes still out as ai type

Hope that no one has lost their lives or lost their homes!

A fire that broke out on Saturday at 3pm near the village of Kathikas in Paphos was still not under control three hours later, authorities said.

Crews from the forestry department and fire service with helicopters were battling the blaze but were being hampered by strong winds.

The fire was threatening state forest areas near the Akamas.

Reports said that both he agriculture minister and the head of the forestry department were heading to the area.

Authorities said crews were working hard to extinguish the fire, while the Icaros 2 Plan, which involves aerial operations, had been activated, with eight firefighting aircraft drafted in to fight the fire.

Panorama Villas on Peyia Hills/ Kathikas is just higher up the road from Pikni forest

Let’s hope that they all safely manage to get this blaze under control
And that no one is hurt !

If you go past the turn to Villa Panorama and carry on for a couple of hundred yards, the fire is across on your left with the wind blowing it away from Peyia. Drove past around 19:30 and there are at least a dozen big fire engines, plus all the smaller trucks plus a couple of bulldozers.
