I have a Cyprus driving licence, i exchanged my uk one in 2002. It is an old paper thing with my picture stapled on ! I guess i need to upgrade to a EU plastic one ? I think this can be done at the post office citizen section in Anavagos ? The post re updating licence always asumme it is from a uk to euro one.

Mouse, you have to get this done at the Citizens Service Centre in Paphos. But you absolutely cannot just walk-in and ask for your licence to be renewed. They won't even let you through the door; there's a security guard on duty there.

I renewed my DL last year and my wife renewed hers a week ago.

To get the ball rolling dial 22 309100

At the appropriate time tap 4

At the appropriate time tap 1

You will then be put through to the Paphos office, who will give you a day and time to visit them.

When you do get there, the system is extremely organised and efficient. Can't fault it.

I assume you speak of the citizens office 500m up from immigration office on what might have been called butcher boy road q, the first and original citizens office ? There is a sub citizens desk at the main post office , anavagos. I have used the original twice over the years , oh what a breath of fresh air it was too , as you say fast , efficient , friendly ! Everything government offices are not , well in my experience !
Must say if you need to go to the transport office mesogi i can well understand people not bothering and leaving paperwork not done. If i apsolutely had to go there i think i would pay Gwenny to fast track it .
When i thought i would have to waste a day and spend 40 or 50 euro to do what ? Swap a scrappy bit of paper with a plastic card ! I said sod that for a game of marbles .
Thankyou yak ! I will book time :sunny

Yes to your first question. I'm not sure the office in the PO is still there. But the way I suggested is effortless and will cost you nothing (if you're a pensioner).

Bah, barely out of your teens, eh

Oh, to be that young again.

Last week I went to the UK to re-validate my PPL (private pilot's licence), which I let lapse in 2006. I have not sat in a light a/c since 2006. But the passion has never gone away.

After three one-hour refresher lessons and a demanding 1.25 hour test with an examiner I regained my UK PPL. Not a bad achievement for a decrepit 76 year old 'pensioner' ;) Now I have to convert it to an EASA PPL.

Alas, so much of the Republic's airspace is "controlled", so there are relatively few areas where you are free to roam at leisure - one of the reasons I let my licence lapse all those years ago. And with so many "unfriendly" countries surrounding Cyprus, flying abroad is not without it's difficulties. The only friendly country is Greece, but Greece and the Greek islands would make welcome destinations. However, as my wife has an abiding fear of water, I may just be forced to get my Twin rating and fly the gorgeous new twin a certain flying club in Larnaca has bought.

We have a friend who used the Pafos club and runway. Regular trips up and abroad, a few years ago there was more options as destinations but alas the politics takes over.
