An article on electrek.co is reporting a new ev accessory from GM , the package of bits will cost about $7400 +tax+installation. First you need ev which is system compatible . On a simplistic level its a bit like having a net metering system but plugging in your car instead of solar panels . This system certainly does have some merit . They say your ev can power your house for 21 days house which is fine ! But it does highlight how much extra power will be demanded from the grid as evs become more common .
Still interesting idea , maybe a system where at times of high demznd your ev feeeds the grid and at times of low demand it charges !
Food for thouhgt huh!

It becomes stupider by the day, so when theres a power outage everyone can stay at home huddled round the electric underfloor heating and join together to power the local hospitals....

I see the single energy source, all eggs in one basket cenario very silly !as far as i can i will carry on with a plan to use petrol , diesel, lpg , biogas , wood , electricity , solar water, solar pv dependng upon whch is best suited at the time , say for cooking eg, microwave , gas hob and wood fired range .
A facet of My dream ! Log cabin on our 2 hectare agricultural plot , in the winter heating the house with a log range and cooking home grown veg on it too .
Self sufficientcy is really hard , but reducing reliance on the outside is something is you can do bit by bit as you learn new skills. As said a dream , what to do if you have no goals !

Mouse you are correct, in fact the idea of being off grid or self reliant here is now a fantasy such is the level of government theft of private property and control. They impose rules designed to control only for financial reasons.

But where you have a population where more than 50% rely on a government salary then they have control and the lemmings sit with mouths hanging open to accept the monthly pay cheque.
