Yakflier, your a flyboy ! Why an earth would all 4 tyres on the rear under carriage burst or explode ? I am sure 1 tyre bursting is very common and quite a non event, but 4 at once ! Was this real or false reporting it was on euronews ? This happened at Milano airport today

Yeah, I saw pics on this and read the story the other day. Sounds like a cockpit crew member made an ultra-heavy landing, with disasterous consequences. Could have been a low-time second officer making the landing? There are many causes of a heavy landing, like localised downdraft on short final, change of wind direction etc., but more usually it is coming in too slow with insuffient power on to arrest the descent. Did you know that it can take up to 12 secs to spool up a jet engine from idle, so any excess descent needs to be identified and taken care of quickly.

They say that any landing you walk away from is a good one, but I'm not sure that applies in this case... and someone will be hauled over the coals for it.

Wow so it was a heavy landing ! I would guess if the landing was heavy enough to burst tyres then some sort of structural integrity check needed to be done before flying again , thus taking a plane out of service unexpectedly ! Yes I did realise there was a delay in spoiling up an engine , but was not aware they would be at such a low level of idle on landing , but there again I know little about flying or landing a commercial aircraft .
