i'm aware that most folk would probably opt for tiles but is there a demand in your opinions for hardwood or laminate flooring and what would be the chances of getting work in this area maybe in sales/quotation work for my hubby

I'm sure there would be demand, Alison. Tiles can get pretty boring after a while. And cold underfoot in the winter!! Was in a customer's house in Pareklissia last week and noted they had what looked like laminate flooring. Funnily enough, it looked as though it was a metal product, but made to look like laminate flooring. Didn't inspect it too closely. Have seen other houses in Nicosia with solid woodblock flooring.

We really would like to have something other than cold tiles in our bedroom - especially this time of the year I'm not aware of anyone marketing this product in a big way, so I'm sure there would be opportunities if you were to supply and install. Lloyd

We bought from ICE developers - they use laminate in the bedrooms as standard now.

Don't know if it's 'desirable' or not?

Thanks for your replies the business is currently in it's 14th year here in the UK and we are hoping to relocate so this is an obvious option for Geoff (other half) to keep in the trade he knows well laminate is low maintenance, comfortable and warm underfoot its also able to take hard knocks looks very natural and comes in many styles and colours from traditional oaks to trendy tile effect, with v groves, skirtings ect so theres lots to choose from. We are generally looking at the market new developers have caught onto the product and are giving people an option, but there's not alot to choose from for the residential customer... although i could be wrong...cheers

Certainly Laminate and alternative floorings are being asked for by purchasers, having a tiled base means it would be easier to lay a floor (I would have thought), and may even be an alternative for winter floor coverings if its the click & remove ones.

I'd suggest hubby markets laminate flooring as a retro-fit and offers underfloor heating during the installation.

In my view it is the best way of providing a retrospective heating installation over tiled floors, which can be turned down to provide trace heating (to prevent condensation) or up, to provide 150watts/s.m. of central heating.

I've got 2 bedrooms waiting to be done!

Sorry if it sounded like we was touting for work, and the advertising would be a great idea especially for free till June ... problem is we live in the UK and although we would like to move to Cyprus in the near future I suppose I'm just trying to look at the market. I am trying to gather the information on shipping costs etc as well as listen to peoples views on the product. I am a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to computers Alison (my wife is tapping away here) on my behalf and I only really advertised when I first started the business in the Yellow pages... never had a web site... I still do most of my work is word of mouth I have dyslexia so this adds to my computer phobia although i can play cards..... I'm getting on a bit, this weather don't suit me and I don't fit myself anymore (belly gets in way) my son has worked with me from day one and he's 28 he will continue with the business here and take over when we eventually make the move, so at that time I will need to look for fitter's and that could bring it's own problems, to do a good job you need to take time consider it your home your working in and have the right tools in place and trust your fitters to do a good job. My son may decide to move to who knows?...hope I'm not going on for to long...

I think it's a great idea and you will do very well but my advise would be to have your son continue in the UK with the business for a year or two while you find your feet here. I guess what I am saying is don't put your eggs all in one basket.

My second piece of advise is if you have a good business idea keep it close to your chest, people tend to pinch them over here.
