They already did - old Monkey's Heid turned down the chance to enter the Intertoto when they finished seventh a few years back, reckoned it would interrupt their pre-season and that it was only a matter of time until they were in the UEFA Cup anyway....

Doesn't look such a crash-hot decision on reflection....

Anyway, Smurf's right, the fair play thing is about more than cards, although IMO it's a bit dodgy basing these things on subjective criteria like "Postive Play"....

So its not only decided on cards, what is it decided on, who kisses who more or how many time they take chucks out of each other, how pathetic, it should be on the amount of bookings each teams gets imo

the rules were there at the start of the year, if your team showed more respect to officials you would be in instead of man city

at least now you can have a moan and say you should be in europe, when if you actually were, you would be lucky to get through the preliminary rounds

Unlike some team Smurf, when the Toon were in Europe we did quite well, you should check out our european records mate, QF, SF most times, in fact, I would say we use to get further than most British teams
Out of 120 games in Europe, we've W69, D22, L29 Scored 208 goals

forgot to mention boro won the anglo scottish cup and once got to the final of the benidorm beach bash so we must be one of the best teams in europe

It was according to the link you gave me, that we'd finished in 3 semi-finals in Europe & what were you doing playing in a Scottish cup

pete neither of the links had you in 3 semi finals in a couple of year unless you count the intertoto (they are what are showing as semi finals on 2 of the occasions) actually 05/06 shows you got knocked out in the intertoto sorry mate you are digging bigger holes

The Intertoto carried on from 05/06 into 06/07 season & then we went into the Uefa Cup

When you did meet anyone half decent, you lost !! ie AZAlkmaar and La Coruna.

pete pete pete how can i put this, in 05/06 you got knocked out by deportivo 4-2 on agg, the intertoto on the next line is for the following years competition never mind mate keep trying eventually you will figure it out

fairs fair, in their uefa cup run the other season they did beat fenerbache, palermo and celta vigo all decent teams, i am not knocking newcastles record in europe (even if it is pretty average) just the statement made by pete initially

So according to your vast knowlegde on this matter, we only played Lillestrøm in the 06/07 season of the Intertoto Cup before we were allowed into the Uefa cup get real mate, you need to play several teams & rounds before qualifying, that why its split over 05/06 & 06/07 seasons

Smurf mate, you really need to get your facts right, we actually won the Intertoto cup that season, we didn't get knocked out, we were the team from the Intertot Sup to last in Europe, thats why we got a certificate stating we won it

When was the last time you lot played any European teams, no matter who they are, that wasn't in a pre-season friendly

actually yes you did only need to play 1 game in 06/07 as uefa changed the regulations that year and went from 5 rounds of intertoto to 3 rounds with the english entrant entering at the 3rd round stage, the winners of the 3rd round stage would advance to the uefa cup (proper) 2nd qualifying round

just thought i would get my facts right for you

I still say you're wrong, as I know that we played several games in the Intertoto Cup before we qualified for Europe, so unless you have written proof of what you're trying to prove Smurf, I'm sticking to what I'm saying

No Gary, that's not the best I've got but its all I need to reply to you & your comments regarding the TOON in europe, if you check our records, you'll find that we've been in Europe nearly every season since the start of the Preniership, I'll think you'll find that not many other Premiership clubs have done that
