It's actually a bit of a compliment I reckon - at least people give enough of a toss about us to bother hating us!

You'll usually find it's the big clubs that feature on lists like this.

Yes, Gary - big clubs like Cardiff, Leeds and Millwall. I guess "big club" is phase you don't understand until you support a "big club"

I willingly admit I do not support a BIG club. I pays my money into Sunderland AFC and am happy to do so. I am honest enough to know that compared to some other clubs we've achieved absolutely nothing and certainly are not a BIG club.
It's just a shame the majority of the " supporters " and I use the term loosely, of our dear neighbours cannot accept what we and the rest of the country know. That they are not a BIG club. Getting BIG crowds and paying BIG wages does not make you a BIG club.
Neither does having BIG egos !
Gary, Happy to be a Mackem.

You see Gary, yet again you get it wrong, was it the supports that put us in the 'Big Club' League, no :!: it was the people in the know: European Club Association (ECA), so stop throwing your teddies out the pram & accept, your dear neighbours are in fact a 'Big Club' according the those that know   Actaully you shoul dbe happy that we are, as that way at least one of the NE clubs is still in with the other 'Big Clubs' :smilielol

Btw 'Big Club' doesn't come from big crowds & big wages, it come from getting into europe season after season, which it seems we did for a while, maybe the Spurts will become a big club if they can keep getting into Europe, something the Mackems have little or no hope of doing :o

Love the photo & the comments, but you see, the Mackems can't even get into the top 10 of that league, never mind the Premiership  Don't forget, hatred is a form of jealousy

pete, so you are saying that at the end of next season or the season after, when newcastle and boro have both failed to get into europe assuming both dont qualify that is, that boro will be a bigger team than newcastle?

after all boro will be above newcastle in the uefa coeffiecints if that happens!!

Smurf mate,

What makes you think the Smoggies will be above us next season :?:

I don't know how the points system works for the European Club Association (ECA), but don't you have to be in Europe a lot to get these points, after all, isn't that why the TOON are the 5th biggest club in the Prem, if it's not the reason, why else did they pick us & not another club :? :?

Who the hell says Newcastle are the 5th biggest club in the Premiership ?
More proof of your delusion.
You are talking Codswallop.
Gary
You are only involved in that Euro thingy cos about 10 years ago you were good at getting into Euro competitions via the back door.

I don't know how the points system works for the European Club Association (ECA), but don't you have to be in Europe a lot to get these points, after all, that is correct pete, every english team gets a basic allocation which is the same for every english club, they get bonus points for how well they do in each years european competition and it depends on how many rounds you need to play to get thereisn't that why the TOON are the 5th biggest club in the Prem, if it's not the reason, why else did they pick us & not another club :? :?

pete, look at the link i have already posted on the post you made a few days ago about newcastle joining europes top table, i posted on there about how it was decided that newcastle would be englands 5th representative (along with 2 teams from the faroe isles, so some mighty teams are included), it also has a link to the uefa coefficients (which is what was used to determine englands 5th team) and if you look closely boro would be rated higher than newcastle in 2 years (asuming neither team qualifies for europe this coming season, which newcastle wont anyway!)

This is where you said it Smurf  just a few posts above  So is that another Mars Bar mate :smilielol

Gary, go back to sleep mate, this is between 2 club who've got a chance of getting into Europe nest season, not the only other NE club who struggles to stay up
Into Europe via the back door eh, so finishing in the top seven, 7 times in the last 15 seasons is going through the back door according to you, so Liverpool, the Spurts, Pompy, Citey, Blackburn, Villa have all got into Europe via the back door too, is that becauise they've never won the title or is it just because you've never got close

Pete, I don't know how you can say you and Boro will challenge for Europe. I've been over this before, we want to avoid a relegation fight this year and that will be progress. Once we can call ourselves established we will make the push for the next level.
As I recall, You lot and Boro didn't exactly cover yourselves in glory last season.
By back door by the way I meant finishing no where near 1st yet getting into the Champions League, which in my opinion, should be for Champions, in which case you lot would never have been in it.
Getting back to the title of this thread, Pete, your attitude is exactly why your club is so unpopular.

So again you're saying teams like Liverpool are not a big club then, as they've not won the top diversion for 17-18 yrs now   Well in the Premiership history, we've finished 2nd twice, 3 twice, 4th, 5th, 6th & 7th, the last one being the 05/06 season, where were your lot :? :? Where have you finished every season you've been in the Premiership, 18th, 19th, last, of & 17th last season wasn't it

I said we've got a chance of getting into Europe, not 'we will challenge for Europe', see you're not reading what I write again :o

If your lot survive this season, you'll deserve a open top bus around your city, its the only time you'll get to use one   I'm actually surprised you didn't have one at the end of last season for surviving the drop

My club is unpopular because of my attitude, you mean the way I support my team & defend any crap thrown at it by the likes of you Mackems & Smoggies, then yeah, my attitude is loyalty, something few fans have, I may not be a Geordie but I sure as hell support them as if I was

You really do talk a load of tosh.
No the reason people dislike your club is because you and many like you have an attitude, full stop. You keep on talking like you are a big club, do you think if you tell people often enough that you are a big club then they'll believe you..... No they won't.
To football supporters up and down the country your club are a joke. You just don't get it do you.
Once again you tell me we are going to be in the mire but that's not what this post is about, you might be right, we might be in the mire, at least I'm not so tunnel visioned that I can't see the obvious.
Oh and Liverpool are a BIG club. Of course they are you muppett.
I really have a soft spot for Pete you know................. yes it's quicksand full of alligators.
Gary

Gary mate,

Yet again, we have never said were a big club, its the people in the know, the European Club Association (ECA) or are you saying they don't know what they're talking about either :doh

I think you're starting to confuse yourself now mate, as you called me a muppet for repeating what you said about Liverpool, they haven't won the Premiership yet they've been in the CL, which you said the TOON did by the back door & so aren't a big club, so who's the muppet

Btw those alligators you're talking about mate have 'green' eyes

Back to subject! I have to say I'm surprised to see Newcastle on that list of the most hated teams. I really did think that most people don't mind Newcastle in Britain.

Newcastle are what Brits normally support. The one that almost wins but never does!

Also what exactly is a "Big Club"? I know that Newcastle is not top 4 sided at present (and probably historically as well) in the English league. But we are in the chasing pack. I think we're probably around 7/8 spot?

But the fan are the most faithful

6th in the all-time top flight league table:

http://www.premiershiplatest.com/all-time-premiership-statistics-premiers.html

Now if Top 6 isn't a big club, i don't know what is??

Welcome to the Sports Bar by the way Ali, I reckon you're going to fit in around here! :D

Also, before Gary pipes up again, we're the eighth most successful in terms of trophies won:

http://www.krysstal.com/trophies.html

A bit inconvenient for all those who like to claim that we've never won f*** all!

Pete, correct me if I'm wrong but haven't Liverpool actually won some European trophies ?
Martin, you can read what you want to read when talking Stats.
I mean we are not a big club but we come in tenth and we've won the league more times than you..... so what ?
Gary

Yes Gary, Pool have won some European Trophies but they'ev never won the Premiership title but have played in the CL, which according to you is getting in the back door, is it not

If you're making little of what the TOON have done mate, please be sure to check the top 4 first to make sure they haven't done it also :D

As for stats mate, that's what makes the people in the know, say we're a BIG BLUB :smilielol

Who are these people in the know that say you are a big club ? Just remind me. Have you forgotten that Smurf has already told you that the Faroes have 2 reps in that Euro thingy. Are you telling me they're big clubs too ?
I stand by what I say, The European Cup or Champions League should only be contested by Champions and the holders.
Letting clubs like your lot into it was a big mistake and dilutes the prestige of the competition.
Gary

Now Gary,

I've written this 3 times already but you still seems to miss it, the people in the know are:
European Club Association (ECA)

Now is that visable enough for your ailing eyesite or does it need to be bigger

So what you're saying is then, that as Manc Usa won the Premiership & the CL, that Chelski, Arsenil & Pool shouldn't be allowed into the CL this season, because they aren't champions & aren't the holders either :? :? is that Mackem logic or just yours

smurf wrote:

Yeah they have, thats because they move between the Premier & Championship leagues more than any other team, too good for the Championship League & not good enough to stay in the EPL, maybe they should create a new league for teams like the Mackems, WBA etc, call it the EPL wannabes

Yes the Faros have 2 teams in there because they have very few teams, saying that ths SPL have 3 teams in there, Rangers, Celtic & Hearts, can you tell me what Hearts have won in recent years :? :?

As I keep telling you, its to do with what time you've spent in European competition, no matter how you get there or what colour your strip is & has the TOON have a semi decent record in Europe over the past 15 years, that's why we're the 5th team & not anyone else, because no other Premiership teams European record matches or beats our yet  maybe the Spurts will over take us next season if they finish above us or maybe someone else, but as it stands, its the TOON, so stop your belly aching & just read & weep boys :smilielol :smilielol

I stand by what I say. When I was a kid and Man Utd played in the European Cup, it was an event that you didn't want to miss.
Now just about any Tom Dick or Harry can sneak into it and that's not right.
I'm talking about the European Cup,The Champions League not the Fairs Cup or Eufa or Intertoto or whatever.
Aston Villa won the European Cup, why weren't they consulted ?
Anyway Pete you continue to contradict yourself with every post, you can't really be as dense as the fog on the tyne, can you ?
Gary

Prey tell me where I'm contridicting myself, or is it your failing eyesight again :smilielol all I'm doing is countering the utter rubish you're posting about only the 'Holders or Champions should be in the CL' as it wouldn't be much of a competition if it was, as it would only have around 8 teams in it

And what as Villa got to do with it, yes they won the European Cup, so have a lot of teams, I don't see your point, if there is a point, this thread is suppose to be about how the other fans think that the TOON are the 9th most hated football team, big deal, get over it, we have  Then you go on about how only certain teams should be in the CL & that the TOON have only got into Europe thru the back door, you seriously need to start checking your facts & the records before writing this tosh  personally I think it comes down to the fact, you're jealous, plain & simply, that we can say we've played in Europe in last 15 season, something you lot haven't  and that we're being recognised for our European campaigns by being the 5th team from the EPL & not anyone else :D

Just get use to it

So according to you pair, it should be Manc Usa & no other team this season, so approx 8 teams fighting it out in the Champions League then :?

So basically, the rest of the teams don't get to play in Europe or are you saying the other 3 play in the Uefa Cup instead & places 5, 6 & 7 dont get into Europe at all :? :?

You pair are as bad as Sepp Blatter & his modern day slavery tosh

Yes Pete that's what I say.
Gary
ps can we put this to bed once and for all. I am a Mackem and I am proud to be one. I do not like Newcastle Utd however, I am not and never have been nor will I ever be jealous of you or your club.
I worked in Newcastle during the years of Keegan and Cole etc but still finished work at noon on a Saturday and went to Roker to watch a team managed by Mick Buxton.
I was not jealous then either. You are with the club you love and nothing's gonna change that.
I do not wish your club good fortune but certainly am not jealous. I don't think you will ever understand Pete.

pete just wondering did you know there was european football before the champions league came about?

when liverpool/forest/derby/man u (first time)/celtic/villa etc won the european cup how many teams were involved?
there would be even more teams in it now than there was when forest won it as there are 53 uefa registered nations (a few more than 8 i think)

there was even a thing called the uefa cup which was for the teams finishing 2nd - 5th and an extra cup for the cup winners, i think it was called the cup winners cup

You know something, Gary's actually right for a change, we all have our own opinions on how things should be run & no matter how many times we try to get others to see it as we do, it never works
