It feels like the majority are from Scotland (taking over the world, you know) but I know there are some folk from my neck of the woods out there too.

Can't I put my vote twice - born in Scotland but Dad is English and lived in England from age 11 hence no accent.

Well if we are going to do that Trish I would have to put 2 votes for England, 1 for Wales and 1 for other.

I was adopted, just in case I have confused everyone.

We're getting quite a trend here already, 66% from England, 34% from Scotland & nobody from anywhere else

What are we saying here, that either no one from the other countries comes here or is it they just don't read our forum

I think it would be quite interesting to see how many of our English members are from the North/South/Midlands - can the poll be amended, or would we need a new one?

It would have to be a new poll, as you can only add to the existing one

It could be areas ie: North East, North West, Midlands, East Coast, West Coast, South East, South West, South Coast. Scotland

Where does Yorkshire fit in to your categories, are we North East? I always think of that as North of the Humber. :help

Its sort of stuck between North East, North West & the Midland I think but if we did another Poll on area's, we'd only have 10 options, so where would you class Yorkshire to be :?

I must have been near neighbours to some of you. Born in Falkirk and lived in Grangemouth - term time only. Slammanan during the holidays where just about every other person there was a relative - that was when there was only about a dozen or so houses, small shop and a bus service once a week. :D

Never had the accent as I had an English Speach Therapist (born with a cleft palate) and still do not understand my mum if she is on the phone to relatives in Scotland because her accent comes out in full force.

No doubts about my ancestry, I'm definitely Scottish as my parents were Glaswegian born and bred. However, they moved South in the 50s with my Dad's work and I was born in Winchester, Hampshire. I've never lived in Scotland, hence no accent, but I don't feel English so, if asked, I always say I'm British otherwise it confuses people.

Hi Pete

I think we have to join you lot in NE.

I cannot possibly say NW, even though we are only a few miles over the border from Lancashire.

The Yorkshire saying is that only one good thing comes out of Lancashire and that is the road to Yorkshire!! Sorry all you Lancastrians.

Very proud to say Im a scouser, born to scouse parents and grandparents - so Im a proper one!!!

However, I do follow the usual trend for Liverpudlians - Irish ancestry. At least one set of genes travelled across the Irish Sea.

Im currently doing my family tree via genes reunited and its really interesting. My mum was shocked to discover she's really a Southerner but way back in her line. Takes a long time though, I'm still on my mums family and its taken me a year. Dread doing my dads side as he was one of 14 kids and Ive no idea how many siblings his parents had.(Catholics really need to think about how hard it is to trace your roots before having all those children! ) Family parties are fun though...

My SIL - who doesn't sell jewellry on Ebay  - is doing a family tree. She has got back to the 1600's and it is amusing to hear some of the names and find out about the babies born out of wedlock. Shocking!

I have no inclination to look at my family tree. I am adopted, and much as I love my Mum and Dad their ancestry is not mine. So I don't have a family tree. I do have a lovely family, though, so I am living in the here and now and am grateful for who I have around me.

I have gone full circle - born in this Pennine village, left when I was 21 to travel the world with my then soldier husband, well Germany and several places in UK!

Returned here 5 years ago, but it has turned out to be a huge mistake, lots of 'bad luck' for want of a better expression. :(

Brian hails from Edinburgh, he's very patriotic, but I don't think he would go back to live there, not now he has got the 'Cyprus Bug!'

well the English seem to be over running the place.

...but think it would be good to know what part of the country
people came from, just to see where Yorkshire comes!
