Rumours are spreading that they are ripping up the sea front down in Paphos, as no one on the Administration team as visited Paphos Harbour lately, can anyone give us any information regarding the situation down there :?:

I have been told that a promonarde(hope thats how you spell it?) is being constructed from the harbor to the imperial beach hotel? hope the weather improves or it will take them for ever to finish it, but then again I would imagine it will take for ever if bar street is anything to go by? But I am sure when it is finished it will look good and hopefully bring more tourists to this beautifull village.

I heard the President as declared that loads of money be spent trying to make Cyprus the No1 tourist destination in the Med

So thats maybe why they're doing all this work around the island to make it better looking, so the tourists will come back :!:

I think they need to get the Cypriot public to understand this too, as its mainly them that make the place look like a tip buy dumping cars, chucking rubish everywhere & fly tipping :!:

Yeah well the place need to be tidied up quite a lot, especially after they've dug up all the roads & just filled them with dirt & no tarmac... makes driving around quite a bumpy ride :!:

At the moment ( and has been for the past 4-5 weeks ) tourists AND locals are avoiding the sea-front.

The work has been going on .......Non-Stop since they started.

Unusual for Cyprus!!

But, the EU are funding this project, and if NOT completed in time, a penalty ££££££ will be incurred.
Many shops etc. on the sea-front are already reducing the prices of products.

Now is a " very good time " to shop for Xmas on Posedonios Ave.

Most shops/businesses are remaining open at the moment, BUT it's like a morgue at this present time in Kato Paphos.

Hardly a soul to be seen during opening hours.

Actually met the previous Paphos mayor in a taverna on Sat. night... and mentioned to him the probs. all businesses are facing at the moment in kato Paphos.

His reply..................Who will you vote for in the forthcoming elections?

needless to say.

I don't think it will be him or HIS party.

The road on the sea-front has beeen tarred all the way from Rose Corner to McDonalds junction.

This was approx. by 12.30 today.

Lets hope the road gets opened up soon for the tourists and others.

The work is scheduled to last 18 months and of course that is taking into account the speed.

New wall etc as breakwater is the plan

This will actually be an ongoing job for a number of years, but the main work on the Kato Paphos promenade is scheduled for completion by May, with the possibility of limited access to the area next month.

I am told that the crews are on large bonuses for early completion.

All the shops have lost their verandas and forecourts (presumably because they were illegal constructions) including that of the diamond shop opposite Macdonalds, which was only recently expensively refurbished.

Although one layer of tarmac has been laid, I doubt that this will be the end of the story, otherwise the whole area will end up as a giant car park :(

Already businesses on bar street have asked the local authority to remove the restrictions on vehicles for the winter (I hadn't really noticed any being seriously enforced) as there are not enough tourists here to keep them in business and Cypriots will not work the extra distance :? I guarantee that if this is allowed, reasons will be found to keep it that way.

Hi Don & Pam,
Yep I did know it's the one and the same but didn't want to spoil his "icognito".

Hope it's OK to bring your excellent picture records of Cyprus to the attention of Paphos People KG

It's a bit late now. The relative anonymity is blown. :( But I have removed my photograph from my home page to help preserve what anonymity is left

Of course I don't mind anyone looking at my web site - that's what it is there for. What I don't like is people using the material for commercial use without permission.

The barriers were taken down a couple of weeks ago to give construction access to the shop fronts. The picture was taken on Friday.

I will be adding to the pictures as the work proceeds.

Its great to see what is happening down there. Not holding my breath about it all being finished when I come over in May although it does seem to be moving on quite quickly

Just spent quite a while looking at your site. Those photos transported me back to Paphos and brought back a few memories like the walk from Polis to Latchi, the pictures of the pelicans reminded me of my son, now 22 but then 5, when he first saw the pelicans and running away from them shouting "Dad Dad there's some giant seagulls" :D
Didn't know Tea for Two had moved into those premises, used to pop in there for a drink I'm sure, didn't know they had got rid of the boardwalk near Alex The Great.
The shot of the municipal beach, ah happy days, mind doesn't look like there's much sand there on the photo.
Well Done Graham

Hi Discopants,
To the best of my knowledge that's Tea for Two No 3. The others are side of M & S and one on Tomb of Kings Rd.

The site was open to the public today, so I took the opportunity to add a raft of photos to my web site. They are uploading (slowly) at this moment :)

All done now

Excellent photos Graham good to see progress is being made.
Your UK photos are very good too: Southport where I grew up and my father still lives, Wales where we took our holidays when I was child, ah nostalgia many happy memories thanks for that.

Cracking pictures KG - haven't been down that way for quite a while, but it certainly looks like the changes are quite dramatic - looking forward to seeing it finished.

They are certainly grafting, but it is difficult to picture what the finished layout will look like.

The tarmac that has been laid is already to the level of the existing footpaths outside the shops, and higher than the old block paving of the harbour road, yet clearly it will go higher still - but surely not with tarmac, if it is to be a pedestrian area?. Blocks are a possibility, but tarmac doesn't make a good base for the pressed concrete that has been so popular elsewhere, so that would appear to be out.

The original idea called for a one way traffic route (that should be a laugh) and a pedestrian area, but if it is all to be tarmac laid to the same level, it will be a car park. Drivers have shown themselves to eagerly knock down the posts that were previously placed to keep them off the footpath. The new stainless steel ones near the Tea For Two cafe are just a more expensive version and should last just about as long.

The old sea wall has been replaced along with a new breakwater and there is some intriguing work going on in the vicinity of the Porto Paphos hotel, but I haven't a clue. how it will turn out.

Hi Graham,
Do you happen to have seen any signs around indicating who is footing the bill for this re-development.
I suspect there maybe some EU funding, but then they usually like to advertise their input.
Thanks for the photo's on your web site, being in the UK at present it's nice to see the progress being made, and it does seem to be moving along at a pace.
