The exchange rate on the London forex market at 7:57am Cyprus time was Bid 1.2599 Offer 1.2607 - the banks in Cyprus set their day rate on the closing prices of the previous days, which yesterday was around the 1.26 mark (for example the rate for buying sterling currency notes from Alpha Bank today is 1.224, for electronic transfers where you have a sterling account with them you would get 1.2489) - expect the shops offering foreign exchange services (illegally) to offer somewhat less than the bank rate but without commission, typically about 4 cents+ down

Yesterday the rate on the london forex market was 1.2765 - I changed my pension which was paid into Alpha Bank yesterday and got 1.2745.

Sorry Chris, what do you mean you changed it. Does your pension get paid into your sterling account then and you transfer it into your Cypriot account?

Exactly that - my pension is paid in sterling into a sterling account with Alpha - I can then exchange and transfer the money into my Alpha100 account via the Alpha online banking service at my leisure.

Understood, but we change most of our sterling at the kiosk, so we always look for the best rate there.
