A new dog service is crying out for help. I spoke to Eve who has given her permission for this to be put on and also offered my services as I really think this is brilliant that some of the dogs that are taken out of the pounds are given a chance of a life rather than just being put down after two weeks. So any help anyone can give whether it is fostering, monetary, grooming, dog food or organising an event to raise some money for them would be most appreciated.

"I and some like-minded friends from Paphos and Limassol are working together as a new voluntary network CYDRA (CYprus Dogs Rehoming Association) to try to get some of the stray and needy dogs here in Cyprus into good, loving homes both here and in Europe, particularly Germany.

Since November last year we have been successful in homing well over 150 dogs from both Paphos and Limassol.

We work with the private and municipal dog shelters in Paphos and Limassol and will also try to help private individuals who rescue a dog but cannot keep it. We hope to have a website up and running in the next month or two and I will post details here on the forum.

What we need now are foster homes to care for some of our dogs for the short time after a home is identified while the dogs are waiting to travel.

In most cases it would be for a period of about 4 or 5 weeks, occasionally a little longer depending on flight availability.

We will usually be able to give you a good idea when you take the dog of when it is due to travel to it's new home and we will pay food and veterinary costs.

Perhaps you come here on holiday for a few weeks and miss your own dog back home, or you do not want the commitment of a permanent pet...

If you feel you could help please contact me on 99337691 if you are in the Paphos district, or Helen on 97667777 if you are in the Limassol area.

Thank you "

Eve

Sounds like a good cause Trish - if they would like us to stick them a free page on the main PP site until they get their own website sorted, just get them to drop me a line.

I have known Eve for many years and you couldn't meet a more caring dog lover. We met when we both worked at PAWS (I still do) and we were and still are heart broken at the number of dogs in Cyprus that need rehoming.
When people rehome dogs here and in this instance I am referring to non-cypriots they never know what the future holds - perhaps for financial or health reasons they have to return to the UK unexpectedly and this is where the problem arises. What happens to the dog or dogs they rehomed. As Eve will point out to anyone, the UK insists that any animal brought in has to have had a rabies jab and a blood test. Unfortunately they also insist that this blood test must have been taken at 6 months before returning to the UK otherwise the animal has to go into quarantine in the UK.
May I take this opportunity to suggest that anyone who has an animal makes sure that they have a rabies jab and a blood test NOW (and of course a pet passport) so IF for any reason they have to leave the island at least they won't have a problem taking the animal with them. A little savings put by for the transportation would also be a good idea.
At PAWS many of the dogs that are brought in are from ex-pats returning to the UK.
Please be a responsible animal owner and take these precautions now.

Thanks
Gill (Halcyon Lady)

Gill, well said. Unfortunately I am one of the ones at present who cannot afford the rabies jab for my three rescue dogs, but there is no way on earth that if I had to go back they wouldn't come with me. I will beg, borrow or steal to make sure they are with me as they are my babies.

Thanks for the offer Martin I will let Eve know.

Have just spoken to Eve and she is "overwhelmed and so grateful". Eve is going to e-mail me the flyer and I will send it to you for insertion, since I am really getting involved now and will have a "foster dog" from this weekend until she gets rehomed every little bit helps (don't say anything to Steve anybody because he doesn't know yet since I have only just got off the phone to Eve and is desperate for help with this one).

I am just bumping this up since Admin have not put it as a sticky - don't mean to sound rude but it would help even though Martin has said a page will go on the main page everything helps. PRETTY PLEASE NEIL

I am now fostering hopefully as of Sunday a very small blonde who is in need of a bit of TLC before she is found a forever home. Now most of you know that I am already on the breadline, but I feel as though I have had so much love from my rescue dogs that if I can help at least one other rescue dog then I will at least have one star going to heaven.

So what I am looking for at present is anybody that could buy a cage (that would belong to the Society or donate one that maybe is of no use anymore) to help me out because at times Koo Koo and Keo can be a bit dominant and aggressive towards each other and in no way do I want a really small blonde getting in between them when I am not there (Wednesdays and Sundays mornings only) - they can fend for themselves, but one that has been mistreated, going from pillar to post it really isn't fair until she has found a forever home.

SO PLEASE HELP SOMEONE to save a really little blonde called Misty so we can get her the right home and give her lots of TLC in the meantime. :brokeheart :brokeheart

That's what the word censor is for Trish

I think we need to get the Forum-Admin to start a new section started for all the animal posts coming up at present, call it something like 'Mans Best Friends' or Animal Instincts' what do you say Forum-Admin :?

Yes but Pete I wasn't being nasty to anybody just saying what Misty is - a female dog known as a b i t c h.

Have just found out that if anyone would like to give this little dog a home she is available to anyone in Cyprus. Nobody feel sorry for her :?:

Everyone knows what a female dog is called & I know you weren't being nasty Trish but what is the point in having a word censor if members feel the need to circumventing it  it's there to help members & not turn the site into a free for all like some other site out there

Yes Jan, I agree, its this time of year when lots of pets get left abandond, so I think we need to hightlight this withour own animal section :D

I am hoping her pesonality make up for her looks - poor little mite she looks really tiny and was picked up of the streets and put into a pound. Lucky for her that one of the team members thought she was worth saving.

True, but I bet you would have had a lot more interested PM's if the original version of your post was in fact the case:

I'm sure Neil won't mind setting up a section for animals looking for homes - could be very useful for a lot of the local charities - now where is the malingering so and so when you need him....

NEIL!

Misty has a forever home and will be going to Germany near the end of November. So good to hear of homes being found for these poor pooches.
