Brief pause for the inevitable jokes........

All done now? OK.

I have found a great guy who specialises in servicing and repairing older cars such as Mazda Familias and Ford Lasers etc.

He is Costas Stylianou and has a workshop in Piraios Street which is in the vicinity of Paphos Fire Station. It hasn't got a sign outside, but it is obviously a motor workshop and is the only one in the street. He is a one man band and gives "old fashioned Cypriot" customer service. He charged me €50 plus parts for a service and fixing a leak of fumes into the cab.

Recommend him without reservation. He even greased the door hinges and oiled the locks (I know this is supposed to be done, but rarely is).

Thanks for that Josef K, we have a very reliable mazda familia but has needed a few repairs recently, we thought it was costly but an excellent job was done, we actually took the car to the mazda repair garage in Chloraka, will try your guy first in future.

Jan :)

Jan I have been reliably informed that Mazda hve just introduced a new range of wooden blocks to build up the pedals, and a selection of driver booster seats

Garages that can apply themselves to good old fashioned mechanic work, should do well rather than rely on the electronic plug ins.

Also if they can clearly explain the problem and solution in English then so much the better, you dont mind paying a few € extra.

Just thought I would let you know that my old banger failed it's MOT on emissions. I went straight down to the guy I recommended above. He dropped what he was doing and sorted out the emission problem while I waited. No charge (probably as he recognised me as an existing customer)!! Then back to the MOT station (on the Polis Road) and passed. I think the MOT guy was a bit surprised to see me so quickly, but it only goes to show what good service is out there.

All they wanted to see was my registration document. I suggest that if you go to the centre on the Polis Road where I went, you hand the reg doc to the guy at the desk as soon as you get there. This puts you in the queue.
