This really does go to prove that a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing..!!

You may already know this but in case you do not have the little arrow
indicating what side your petrol tank is on this is good information..!!

The Worlds Best Kept Auto Secret is about to be unfolded.....

I have been driving (legally) for over 3 decades. . One would think I
would have noticed the little secret on my dash that was staring me
right in the face the whole time. I didn't and I bet you probably haven't
either.

Quick question for you. What side of your car is your petrol tank? If you are
anything like me, you probably can't remember right away. My solution
is to uncomfortably stick my head out the window, strain my neck and look.
If you don't do this in your own car you definitely have done it in a
borrowed or rental car.

Well ladies and gentlemen, I'm going to share with you my little secret
so you will no longer look like Ace Ventura on your way to the petrol station
or put your neck at risk of discomfort or injury.

If you look at your tank gauge you will see a small icon of a petrol pump.
The handle of the petrol pump will extend out on either the left or right
side of the pump. If your tank is on the left, the handle will be on the
left. If your tank is on the right, the handle will be on the right
It is that simple!

I don't know how you feel right now but when I found out this morning I
felt cheated and had been sulking all day..!! In fact my wife had to bribe
me out this afternoon with promises of a cold beer..!! Needless
to say I'm still waiting for it to happen..!!

Why don't the dealers share such important information with car buyers?
don't understand why this isn't in the drivers manual? I don't get why
any mechanic I have ever been to or know has even thought of mentioning
this to me? The only possible explanation can be that all these people
probably don't even know themselves..!!

So your the one who blocks the Tesco filling station up in Perth!!!

Ive even seen some folk sending the passenger out to have a look, its like a recce before the major operation of filling up.

The slow laborious method of doing one task at a time, following each pump handle right back from the nozzle to the underground tank to check if the green one is petrol or if the black one is really diesel. Then checking the purse to see how much they can put in................................... Boy i hate women drivers, old age drivers, learner drivers, middle aged drivers, in fact leave me alone on the forecourt please.

Rant over

I have to admit I always check a car before I get into it to see where the pertrol/diesel cover is  the only problem is, I normally forget before I need to fill up & usually ask the missus if its on her side or mine

I think the reason the Dealers or Mechanics don't tell you this, is because I don't think they know themselves, you have probably uncovered the last unknown secret left ona vehicle :o

Good on yer but as I'm not likely to remember this when I next get in my L200, its lucky I know which side of the pump I pull up at when I need a fill up

There is an alternative method... pull the remote opening lever and look in the mirror

And of course only works if you have a remote release lever.... unlike my wifes car that does not.... :?

I used to drive hire cars regularly for my job back in the UK, often a different model every time, and I would often go the the wrong side of the pump!

Worst episode I had was in a VW Golf - couldn't for the life of me find the release for the petrol cover no matter how hard I looked, there was a queue forming behind me and the thing was dead empty so I couldn't leave without filling up - checked all the usual places to no avail, people behind me beeping their horns and I was starting to get well flustered!

Finally hit upon a great idea - mate of mine had a similar car, so got him on the mobile, and he was able to rescue me!

And guess where is was? Behind the hand brake!! I mean, what a stupid bl**dy place to put it - I thought the Germans were supposed to be efficient??
