Found out last night that my brother in law died suddenly yesterday morning. No idea what caused it yet – apparently he said he was feeling tired, went for a lie down and just didn’t wake up.

He was only 41, and had always been fit and healthy. He was a really sound bloke, very quiet and decent as you like & worked all hours to provide for his family. Leaves my sister with my 14 year old nephew and 9 year old niece.

Guess it goes to show how frighteningly precarious life can be. I’m absolutely stunned.

My condolences to you and your family. Such a young age, the only thing you can all comfort yourselves with, is that he didn't suffer.

Having lost my dad suddenly I know that you familys grief will be huge. The hardest part for me was people who I had known all my life crossing the street rather than speak to me as they didn't know what to say. The biggest comfort your family can give each other will be to talk about him. My thoughts go out to you and your family.

When someone dear departs this life, or is taken from us, it is difficult if not impossible to find anything positive in the situation.

It may be small consolation for those left behind to mourn, but your brother in law went peacefully, so hopefully the whole family may be able to draw comfort from this fact.

I echo all the above condolences and hope the family come to terms with such a sad and sudden loss.

Our condolences to you and your sister and family. My Dad, although a lot older than your bother-in-law, went to see the GP one day and never came back. He had had a massive stroke and died in the surgery so I can realise the shock you must all be in. Take care.

Thanks everyone.

I did initially hesitate before starting this thread, but I’m glad I posted it now as reading all the messages of support really does help.

I guess it’s times like this when being so far detached from the rest of the family is the most difficult. Just waiting now to find out when the funeral is and have to hope I can get a suitable flight at short notice.

I know what you mean - it really helped me last year as well. When you know the details, if you pop into Top Kinisis, opposite Cosmic Bowling, as they have all the special offers of flights back to the UK. I'm sure they'll be able to help you.

My thoughts are with you and your family - I know how difficult it is being separated at a time like this.

Thanks again for all the good wishes.

Post mortem results showed the cause was a heart defect - I'm not sure the proper medical terminology, but apparently something to do with a valve closing when it shouldn't have. Unfortunately it seems it can also be hereditary, so now the kids are having to have tests too.

Funeral is a week tomorrow, so I should be OK to get over for a few days - off hunting flights just now...

Funerals are horrible things; I've been to far too many.

Hope all goes well and tests on the rest of the family all prove OK.

Martin and Yvonne,
So sorry to hear your news. Our thoughts are with you and all your families.
My b-i-l was killed in a car crash at age 24 in Canada, when his son was only 6 months old. Awful time for all our family but we all supported each other as I know you will do. Have a safe journey over.
