Whilst coming down from the hills today we noted that the small river near Lemona was running a fair old torrent. So does anyone know where this one runs into, and with the recent rains, what is the state of the dams?

Tanny,
Todays total figures for all dams is 37884 million cubic meters which is 13% of capacity. Last years figure was 29439 mcm which was 10.1% of capacity.
Cheers Norman.

Reservoir water used for water year ending '08 was 41MCM, '07 81MCM, '06 97MCM, '05 106MCM, so with 38MCM in the reservoirs today you can logically expect that water cuts during 2009 to agriculture will be extreme and to residential will be rationed.

Recent years reservoir inflow tells us that over 70% of the years supply has been collected come start of March which for this water year suggests a total inflow of 34MCM add that to the 10MCM from end of last year and basically we are still in a really bad way !!! Especially if other water sources don't contribute extra from August onwards. Of course it will only take aweek or two of heavy rain on the mountains to make a big difference to the supplies but we've only had two of those events in the last 6 months, maybe this coming week will come good but then the chances reduce week by week.

ps. They use comma in Cyprus for decimal point

If you click on the Dam name from the chart most of the photos show each dam to be full, this does not reflect the actual levels.

:gossip If any one here remembers January 2004, from the chart you will see 'WE' had in excess of 89,000 million cubic meters in that month, which led to all the dam's overflowing during march/april of that year

:manic If you had been 'running' burger/bacon buttie's van then you would have done a 'roaring' trade at side of ice-cream van, all locals went to have a 'look' at the dam overflowing :doh
